Re: Bass effect unwanted
That's set in the Windows Control Panels. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel This is the tutorial for recording internet music. You want to do the exact opposite of this -- make sure you do not have these settings. http://w...

Re: Bass effect unwanted
Do you capture internet/YouTube audio or music? There is a special capture setting called "Mix-Out," "Stereo-Mix," or "What-U-Hear" that is used to do that. You need to make sure that's turned off for live microphone recording.

Re: lower the background score
I remember one of the US television tests. Unfortunately I lived so far into the farming country Fringe Area that it was a lost cause.

Re: Trouble recording in stereo with external mic.
Many times the internal microphone records in stereo. This is usually so convenient, people naturally expect all microphones to do that and that's when they get burned.

Another possibility. If you have one of those combo turntables with the USB service, many of them also have a Line-Out suitable for connecting directly into an entertainment sound system -- without a phonograph amplifier. If you connect one of those to a phonograph amplifier, that will create severe...

If you're using this for a phonograph/turntable, did you connect the thin black ground wire? Most phono amplifier system hum without that.

Re: Frustrating recording problems after reformatting to XP
We also need to remember that "Stereo Mix" is a joint dance between the Operating System, the Software Drivers, and the Sound Card. Miss any one step and recording will fail. If your Vista or Win7 sound card doesn't support Stereo Mix, then it will be a lot of trouble to get it to work -- ...

Anything that old would certainly have been in mono, thus killing most of the tools likely to help. But, yes, certainly if you're capturing the work yourself, do it in a very much higher quality. Music CD format 44100, 16-bit, Stereo at minimum (even if you don't need the stereo part).

Re: Devices-Host. MME only is shown. Should be Core Audio
There was a post a while back on a related issue. I always go for System Preferences, too, but we had a poster that claimed System Preferences in perfect order, bouncing lights and all, but the machine didn't start working until they selected the same things in the MIDI Setup Panel. Since one is a s...
