Re: Analog vs. Digital
And since the question was of a four-track cassette recorder, then you also have to deal with cassette problems. Nobody considered cassette tape any better than dictaphone quality (from which the phrase "Red Tape" came) until Dolby noise reduction came along. And Dolby A, B, or C was only ...

I can't get the web site to tell me the right information.
Right Click on one of the sound files > Properties > General and Summary. See if you can tell what kind of sound file it is. Microsoft WAV, 48000, 16-bit, Mono?

Re: DELETION OF BACKGROUND NOISE
You might be able to make use of the equalizer effect in Audacity 1.3.12. Pull down all the frequencies below about 100Hz and the clarity of the voice should pick up a little. Or possibly Effect > High Pass Filter, and choose 100 Hz. All we're doing is getting rid of the bus rumble. That's about as ...

Dolby AC3 is a surround format. Are you saying you decoded the show sound into all six channels and you're trying to edit only two of them? How did your software prepare the tracks for editing? Is there an export or save command? AC3 also has multiple channel formats available and we've been known t...
Re: Edit help
The Fade Out effect happens over the duration of the timeline that you select. If you drag-select 20 minutes of show, then the effect will fade out for 20 minutes.

<<<If you use Audacity Beta it has Sliding Time Scale which is a higher quality way of doing sound stretching>>> That's a very soft, gentle, and fuzzy way to say, "Stop using Audacity 1.2." Modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2. Get version 1.3.12 from here: http://audacityteam.org/downl...
