Re: need more gain - peavey or ????
<<<might as well skip the preamp and just use a good noise removal program>>> I don't know that I agree. Both Noise Removal and Noise Gate cause show damage and you expend production time tuning them for each show. They're not automatic. Quality of show becomes a post production decision and a time ...

Re: Recording archived message from cell phone
Somewhere around a third of the way down both postings is the key to all this. You plug your sound device (cellphone) into the high level, powerful, stereo connection of the computer. Most Windows laptops don't have those. They have connections for a tiny, wispy, delicate, mono microphone. Unfortuna...

Re: Digital "jukebox" to feed the analog stereo?
You don't have to put a hard drive "inside." You can buy a very high quality USB music device... http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 ...run Audacity on the computer and connect one (or two) external USB drives. You need to capture to the internal drive and then tran...

Re: wierd phasing effect on recordings.
<<<that was it.>>> Which that? Did you have exactly the same settings as in the above post? These are a problem for us because no two people have the same settings and it's difficult to steer people out of trouble. I looked in one of our Vista deskside machines for sound settings and it posted all t...

Re: converting stereo track to mono one
<<<rw disks are often touchier and harder to use than real oneshot cds>>>
They may take longer, too. That was the objection one of the engineers had for not using them. "Have you tried to use an RW?" he said. "Get a cup of coffee."

Re: Exporting to a WAV file
A blank recordable CD will hold 800 MB of data. The standard music CD usually holds some 12 to 18 songs. Let's see. Put down the three...carry the four.... That's about 44 MB per song. The music on the CD is 44100, 16-bit, Stereo -- always. No compression or tricks. OK, there are one or two tricks, ...

Re: File formats & data loss?
I'm a fan of high quality WAV files. You get your show in one stand-alone music file that everybody can open and on all three computer platforms. You can export a 44100, 32-bit floating, stereo WAV sound file and the quality loss should be zero. Audacity Projects are multiple files and folders and t...

Re: Audacity .wav files rejected by trial version of Nero 10
If you're using Audacity at its default settings, it will produce a WAV file at 44100 and 32-bit floating, not 16-bit. I'm not shocked that the smaller version of Nero wouldn't like that very much. Export at 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. And yes, I do have a burner program that hates mono sound files. Koz
Re: exporting
You do need to pay attention to that MP3 thing. MP3 is a compressed and damaged file format, not suitable for archival storage. It's a delivery and restricted quality internet format. WAV, or AIF (or AIFF) are distortionless, uncompressed formats suitable for production and storage. You can use your...

You do need to pay attention with the Logitech microphone. It's directional.
