Re: Nubie Question - How to Amplify Audio
Effect > Amplify > OK. That will make the music as loud as possible without distortion. If it's still not loud enough, you can apply some of the compression tools like Effect > Leveler > OK and Effect > Compressor > OK. Those create distortion that sounds loud. Export a new sound file and apply to y...

Re: Determining dBFS levels in selection
<<<min would be noise level based on bit depth - no?>>> No. It would be the noise level of the show. Bit Depth would be the smallest possible if everything else was perfect. In some cases, that could be the room noise. Again, that would depend on processing and how you went looking for the noise. If...

Re: Can't Get Analog Factory to Record
Audacity is a sound program that doesn't support MIDI. It might be a problem to have MIDI control running and sound recording at the same time, but it's possible.

Re: Can't Get Analog Factory to Record
This is a MIDI keyboard -- or uses MIDI management. MIDI presses the keys at the right time, but doesn't carry sound. You would need to patch the output sound from the keyboard into the Line-In of your Mac. That's the thin circle with two black arrows. I use the Headphone-Out of my keyboard with an ...

Re: Input Volume
Check Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Make sure that volume control is advanced. That's the panel with the volume meter on it. Also make sure that panel is pointed to your turntable. If you like to run Skype, the settings could have become scrambled. You can also check out Go ...

Re: Determining dBFS levels in selection
It sounds so easy when you say it that way, but it's hugely complicated. You need to deal with non-symmetrical peaks and recall that the peak data is a single point, but the others demand an energy distribution over time to be useful. Then there's getting useful information in the face of a single h...

Re: I get a watery sound when removing noise in audacity
Here we go. I found somebody who could drive a guitar. http://kozco.com/tech/MicTests/timc.wav It's a very abbreviated clip because I adjusted the mixer wrong and it started clipping. !S#$%^& That's not the $20 microphone. This one is a vocal mic and has a slight vocal haystack, but nothing that...

No Edit > Undo. Do you kill the UNDO when you save the Project (second show) with a new name?
Do I sense the idea that Audacity doesn't do BAK files any more and I'm hosed? Or is this a Mac thing and I found an Unintended Feature.

Auto Back.....?
MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Leopard OS-X 10.5.8 Audacity 1.3.12 I recorded a live five minute presentation and saved the Project as music-a. Then I recorded a second five minute presentation and pressed Save Project by accident. [booming kettle drum sound] I then saved the second one again...

Re: After using Audacity all sound on my Mac has gone
Intel Macs running Leopard or Snow Leopard have more troubles with 1.2.5 Audacity than is good. I have one Audacity 1.2.5 install that won't launch. We try to get people off 1.2.5 as quickly as they can go. We're never sure if we're solving an Audacity problem or solving a Leopard/machine problem. I...
