Re: Basic problem with Wave Out or Stereo Mix
Wave-Out and Stereo-Mix are normally selected in the Windows Control Panel and it depends greatly on which Windows you have. The majority of XP machines have this listed as a matter of course. In Vista, they may be listed as Extra or no longer supported tools -- or left out. Many Win7 machines don't...

Re: Skip to start / stop... no option in between?
Not exactly, but that's another reason to be in Audacity 1.3.12. That version has resume recording without starting a new timeline.

Re: Skip to start / stop... no option in between?
And to further upset your process, you really shouldn't be on Audacity 1.2. The earlier Audacity can be a little cantankerous with modern computers. Audacity 1.3.12 is much more stable with better tools. http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can safely install both, but only use one at a time. Audac...

Re: Skip to start / stop... no option in between?
Click anywhere on the blue waves in the timeline and SpaceBar will start playing from that point. Drag Select a portion of the show and you can zoom into it with Control-E. Zoom back out to the full show with Control-F. Control-3 zooms out a little bit. Those are the only three zoom tools I ever use...

Re: Recording problem
Once you do get your music into your computer, you have to defeat all the Windows sound management. Dig in the Windows control panels and turn off all advanced, automatic, and conferencing settings. Then, you get to use headphones. Computers have delay and odd feedback problems normal amplifiers and...

Re: Recording problem
If you're plugged into the Mic-In of your laptop, you can't do that. The two connections, even though they have the same plug, aren't compatible with each other. You can do this with a Windows Laptop, but you probably need a USB sound card like the UCA 202 we reviewed here. http://forum.audacityteam...

Re: Recording problem
You need to be a little chattier than that. "I'm trying to record my electric guitar by plugging the amplifier's headphone jack into the Mic-In of my Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop. I'm using Windows 7 and Audacity 1.2.6. I'm listening to the computer speakers during my performance." Any of t...

Re: Why are bits of the vocal track not playing back?
<<<Sometimes, when I record vocals and then play them back, the track is missing little chunks of the vocal line, as if they were deleted.>>> When I read that, I picture somebody in a quiet room singing in front of a microphone and maybe playing a guitar. Is that what you're doing? Koz

Re: totally lost
You posted in the Audacity 1.3 section of the forum. Are you really using Audacity 1.3? Audacity > About Audacity Audacity 1.3.12?? If it says one of the 1.2 versions of Audacity, then you need to download and install 1.3.12... http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac Modern Macs do not support Aud...

Re: How can I knock down mic pops?
<<<Careful mic placement from now on. Thanks much.>>> There are some notes about that. If you have the chance, a mechanical pop and blast filter is a really good idea. That's the round thing. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg Directional microphones, cardioid, supercardioid, are much more ...
