Re: PC reboots after 20+ minutes recording in stereo
Your machine appears to be profoundly unstable. Audacity is the coal mine canary. If your machine isn't perfectly stable, you may have problems, but rarely does it cause restarts. That's pretty serious. Have you ever done an error check or defragmentation on your hard drive? Start > My Computer > Ri...

Re: Sudden bass reduction
How are you listening to the show? Where are the speakers and how are they connected?
If you play this short stereo test clip, are all four segments audible and sound more or less human (given that it's me)?

Re: Recorded track but won't play back or save file
Version 1.2 of Audacity is not recommended on newer computers. It's not completely stable. In the case of certain Macs, it won't even start. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Sleep has always been problematic on Windows machines and given Audacity is not a commercial product with thousands of progra...

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
<<<I just remain nervous about globally converting 2 channel mono to single channel mono.>>> That you can do with no damage. Export the mono file as a WAV file and there's no damage there, either. That file can, at any time be converted back to "stereo" (two channel mono) if you need it. W...

<<<I recorded the audiobook with a Plantronic headset. >>>
An excellent idea, however, you have arithmetic working against you. A one inch shift in placement of the microphone can double the distance to your lips, and yes, that can have significant effect in the show.

Re: Audacity and latency
<<<And then there is a function in Audacity which automatically corrects the tracks that long back, every time I record?>>> I don't know how automatic it is. Don't you still have to put the appropriate numbers in the boxes for latency adjust manually? The tests just tell you what numbers to use. Koz

Re: Issues when Palm Muting
I wish they would post back. We're assuming they're overdubbing, but it's possible not.

Re: Issues when Palm Muting
Isn't there a setting that only records when the volume is above a set level? If you have that messed up, it's possible muted performing could intermittently fall below the recording threshold and create a damaged track. Damaged musically. The tool is supposed to do that.

Re: Two different mono channels in 1 track
Do Not try to save the new shows using the same file names. Once you step on or damage the original show, you're toast.
