Re: Recording an audiobook - getting consistent levels from

44100, 16-bit, Stereo is the format of the sound on a Music CD. It's an uncompressed, non-damaged format. It's handy to save your work like that (on multiple hard drives) as archive and safety backup. From those files, you can go downhill and create MP3 or AAC or other portable formats, but you can't...

Re: Need help with Audacity and SoundFlower

We can start with Audacity 1.2 is not supported on modern Macs. Get Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac You can safely install both, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2. SoundFlower is a little wacky because you have to assign the...

Re: Chris's Compressor effect on CD burns???

I only use the Chris that installs as a plug-in to Audacity. I don't know of anyone that's had problems when they did that. Somehow, Chris produced damaged files. Either the burner doesn't understand them, or the INFO inside the file and the actual music are different. Either way, they're toast. Koz

Re: Slight lag in OSX

The external thing is handy because it carries no baggage from the old install at all, and doesn't disturb anything you already did. There are hunt and peck ways around this. It takes longer. Have you ever run the "Periodic" tools on your Mac? If you have a very active machine, that will s...

Re: Advice on Compressor Effect?

I think it's possible to force one of the compressors to do this, but this is so perfect for the tool Steve hasn't written yet. Steve wrote the Noise Gate which does things when the sound gets too low. I want him either to rewrite it or fold into the existing tool the ability to do things when the s...

Re: Slight lag in OSX

"Exotic Users" cause oddball problems ;-) . I bet there isn't another person on earth that has the same configuration you do. Do you have an external FireWire Hard Drive you're not using right at the present? Physically mount it, boot the machine to the OS-X install CDs and put OS-X on the...

Re: Tracks Menu as indicated in the tutorial?

Audacity doesn't do anything live except record and playback.

Audacity 1.3.12 has Tracks.

Re: Slight lag in OSX

That's very significant screen draw delay, and yes, that would drive me nuts, too.

No, it's not a "bug" until 500 of your closest friends complain about the same thing. You just have a messy machine. I need to drop out and do Saturday things for an hour or so...

Re: Help Removing Background Talking From Recording

I think your Chatty Cathys are performers in your show, and you can't take a show apart into individual performers. As you're finding out, there is no key to use to identify the talkers. Vocal removal works by "knowing" that the lead singer is usually located half way between your right an...
