Re: Our Friend Windows Media
<<<The issue that older WMP versions did have is that you couldn't extract audio CDs to WAV.>>> You have needed CDEX for a great many years, but Windows Media before about 9 would not prepare and burn a Music CD. Couldn't be done. There was much celebration at that one magic version upgrade. Koz

Re: Our Friend Windows Media
<<<if it didn't allow burning to audio CD I think we'd know about it?>>> We would certainly know about it. I didn't mean to suggest the program would not produce a Music CD. It does. I mean to follow the Windows Philosophy what suggests, strongly, that everything, unless proven otherwise is a Window...

Re: 'Crackling' Sound when I try to record myself singing
If you wander around the forum, you know we put great stock in the personal experiences -- and samples -- of the posters. So, when you get a performance you're happy with, please Export as FLAC and post four or five seconds of it here. That may be all that fits. I was going to say reduce it to mono ...

Re: Out! Out, I Say!
I think I found it. There's something called a "backup_install." It's buried layers deep in an archive system and it's apparently still active, or alive enough to run. No, it's not remotely in /Applications.
Is this something Audacity 1.2 used to do in days gone by?

Out! Out, I Say!
This is a picture of the "About" panel for Audacity 1.2.4 on my Mac. Picture 1.png The freaky part about this is I don't have Audacity 1.2.4 on my Mac. D'Oh! The program isn't in the /Applications list and I no longer have the installer for it. The only way I can get it to launch is to sel...

Our Friend Windows Media
As of two or three versions ago, you could use Windows Media to burn a Music CD. The question becomes, does Windows Media insist on compressing the songs into Windows Media Format (h.264, I believe) before the burn?

Re: getting ready to burn a cd
There is a tutorial on this one. It's pretty common. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/How_to_burn_CDs Do Not make an MP3. MP3 is a compressed format that causes audio damage. The show in Audacity is perfect and uncompressed and the music on the CD will be perfect and uncompressed. You shouldn't dam...

Re: Just posted in 1.2 forum also--re separated data files
Most of the elves consider there is only one "real" Audacity, the 1.3 version. Audacity 1.2 is seriously old, no longer supported, and can cause serious problems on newer machines. The 1.2 version is still offered as the good one over our objections.

You may have "Snap" selected from the lower part of the work window.
Turn it off. You may need to restart Audacity.

Re: Twelfth Fret?
Cool. I wasn't that far off, then. I was further away. I did have to move the recording away from the windows in the room for a very odd reason. We're not all that far from LAX, but we're cross-wise to the runways. Unless you know the airport is there, you'd never know by listening. Until yesterday....
