Re: automatically line up and average out noise?
<<<I guess there's a filter to disguise that.>>> Why would you guess that? You'll never be able to hear the muxing frequency, the speaker won't go fast enough to reproduce it, and filters are expensive. The only way you would ever find out what they were doing is if you tried to electrically cancel ...

<<<play back earlier project files but it will not record new ones.>>> This is one of the symptoms of running out of hard drive space. You should have between 10% and 20% of free space left on your system drive and the drive you told Audacity to put the work. Edit > Preferences > Directories. Audaci...

Re: Audacity Installation unwanted changes.
These are the current releases. http://audacityteam.org/download/ I would be using Audacity 1.3.12, not Audacity 1.2 1.2 is seriously old and no longer managed or improved. It can have serious problems with newer computers. When was the last time you did a comprehensive system virus scan? I don't me...

<<<AT2020USB. I can set it to "2ch-16bit" in Audio Midi Setup>>> Can you set it to mono? I have been able to generate consistent test results with a mono USB microphone across 10.4.11, 10.5.8, and 10.6.4. No condition of settings in any panel will convince the system to generate a stereo s...

Re: Samson G-Track Static Noise
Speaking of cross-forum pollination... Another posting described how turning off the WiFi service completely also deleted the poster's microphone noise.

Re: automatically line up and average out noise?
Which proves the assumption that there is enough distortion in the system to affect signal cancellation. You clearly should be able to affect a complete cancellation in that case. It doesn't take much. A 1% distortion amplifier chip (very common. I can give you part numbers without trying too hard) ...

Re: Filter Preview Duration
Almost without question you need to drop Audacity 1.2 as a hot rock and install Audacity 1.3.12.
http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac
Audacity 1.3.12 has a preference setting for preview time.
Audacity 1.2 is no longer supported or updated and can become unstable on newer computers.

Re: Samson G-Track Static Noise
To extend that a little. Sometimes the single built-in microphone in a laptop can be caused to record in stereo. The Laptop I'm typing on can do that, so it's natural to assume all microphones can do that trick. No. My Logitech Desktop USB microphone records in Left or Mono. No options. If you have ...

Re: Samson G-Track Static Noise
I can tell you about the Left-Only thing. USB microphones do that. They represent a single sound channel (assuming they are really a single microphone) and only show up as "Left" or "Mono" in Audacity. If you're in Audacity 1.3.12 like you should be, then duplicating the track an...
