Re: Problems recording? Sound coming out of one speaker...
You need to Zoom Out. We can't understand completely enough what you're doing from your tight analysis of just Audacity. Describe the turntables, mixer, interconnection cables, type of computer, where the plugs go in, etc. etc. You have the kind of problem that demands detail like this. Most problem...

Re: First post--transfer question
If you have a Music CD player and recorder, you can burn simple music CDs and then rip them inside the laptop for the music files you need. Yes, the basic Windows Laptop is not good for "simple" jobs like this. Do you know anybody with a modern Mac? Those will plug right into your cassette...

Re: How to burn/record
If you're on a relatively modern Windows machine, you should be able to use Windows Media to Author, Arrange the music, and Burn the CD. Older Windows Media programs wouldn't burn.

Re: Weird oscillation recording from mixer
<<<"mic boost on/off" >>> 'Mic Boost' converts the laptop input between loud and soft microphones. Not convert from Microphone to Line level. So you're still beating up your laptop with the powerful signal from the church sound system. It's also mono, by the way. If you have a stereo signa...

Re: Audacity Installation unwanted changes.
Where did ASK send you when it changed your IE? Did you save the address or have any other information? There is a downloadable ASK toolbar and an ASK Mobile. I think this is an extension of the original Ask Jeeves Search Engine. It may not be a virus. It may be a particularly aggressive ad campaign...

Re: Stereo recording not working on Mac but fine on PC
<<<In the case of exporting a 2 channel track it's possibly even easier to just to add a stereo track prior to exporting - it can be an empty track - as long as there is at least one stereo track (or one mono track panned off-centre) then the exported file will be stereo. I notice that in the defaul...

I thought we got rid of the Overlapping Thing
This is taken from 1.3.13 on an Intel Mac running fully patched Snow Leopard. The 1.3.13 can't be more than a week old. I was going to post about making the Monitor Switch graphically visible -- that click inside the record meters tool? But I see if I Right-Click (Control-Click) the messages tell me...

Re: Audacity automatically speeds up recorded tracks?
It's not unusual for affordable sound cards to use independent electronics for playback and record. In English, cheap sound cards frequently record and play at slightly different speeds. Normal computer users don't notice it, but the instant you try to do Scientific Research, Critical Sound Analysis...

That's the "gimmie." People know that one even if they've never seen a movie in their lives. The trick is to do it with more obscure movies and in real time.
