Re: Can't access most "edit" or "file" commands
Now that we got you rolling, You should look into double installing Audacity -- you can install both 1.3.12 and 1.2 although you can only use one at a time. You will be stunned at all the newer tools and the older tools that actually work now. As you get used to 1.3, you'll use 1.2 less and less. If...

Re: LOST PROJECTS
Do you remember exactly what you called the project? You can get into serious trouble by using characters that have hidden, unintentional meanings to the operating system. A classic problem is putting dates in a name. Don't do that. Slash marks do evil and unpredictable things to a file. 20100922. T...

Re: LOST PROJECTS
To specifically answer your question, Yes, I think this may be an odd result of using a very old Audacity. Try again with Audacity 1.3.12.

You don't have to uninstall 1.2. You can install both, but Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

<<<I then closed the project with the intention of burning the CD the following day.>>> You used the wrong words. "I then Saved the Project and closed it." If you didn't Save the Project, you never created the AUP file, _DATA folder and all the little snippet files that make up your show. ...

Re: Stereo recording not working on Mac but fine on PC
I will admit a twinge that I need to ship you my aggressively mono USB microphone, but shipping would exceed the $19USD purchase price.
But I can plug it into my XP Windows machine on my desk and see what happens. I don't remember which Audacity version I have.

Re: S/PDIF Help!!
I don't know that I can help you. Multi-Channel (over 2) in Audacity is the stuff of witchcraft, whisper campaigns, and Urban Legend. We urge people who actually got it to work to please post back and tell us in detail how they did it. Are you sure you're feeding all four channels with sound? I thin...

Re: Multiple WMV files?
No. You're fine right where you are. Audacity doesn't Save sound files. It saves Projects. Projects are collections of files -- some collections with quite a few different files -- that can be made into one good sound file or show file later on. Audacity does it this way because you can edit a very ...

Re: Track on base(0,0)-line
You have battery voltage or DC mixed in with your show. That can make editing a nightmare, so you have to remove it.
Effect > Normalize > remove DC. Do not select anything else. OK.
