Re: mic auto adjust problems? windows vista

Those music files may say they're MP3, but when I pull them down, I get a picture (gif)
telling me I don't have permission to access the file.

But that's OK. It's pretty straightforward when you get the settings right and all the problems go away.

Re: mic auto adjust problems? windows vista

Windows comes out of the box as a corporate business software package. One of the things that gets preset is the sound channel. It is set for Skype or other communications between business offices, not high quality audio. So you need to root around in the Windows Control Panels and turn off anything...

Re: Cannot hear playback Audacity 1.2.6

A note on the numbers. Digital audio is measured from "0" where the channel overloads and you simply can't get any louder. All good quality sound is measured down or quieter from that point. -60 or so is seriously quiet and some people have trouble hearing it. So those are the two extremes...

Re: Cannot hear playback Audacity 1.2.6

There is a very common problem with USB microphones -- low volume. The forum is littered with "How do I make it louder?" messages. When you speak into the microphone and it's recording, do you see the bouncing red meters like this? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg I don'...

Re: Please help!

<<<I've not done many shows but your right, hate the sound of me own voice!>>> There is a presenter on the BBC that occasionally arrives in the US. She's really good and she has a gentle Gaelic twist to her voice. You'll get over that. You can do classes with yourself by recording somebody whose voi...

Re: Weird chirping sounds and problems selcting points on tr

Down in the lower part of the work window, you should turn off "Snap To." You could easily have a feedback pathway. Do you like to record internet audio or are you connected to record a musical instrument? It's not unusual on a laptop to connect the built-in microphone to the speaker syste...

Re: Please help!

How many other shows have you done and how many times have you recorded yourself? This can be a very broken microphone, or it could be you never heard yourself announcing music before. It takes most people several tries to get used to themselves announcing. It's a strange experience. Not everybody c...

Re: not recording

<<<I plug it into my laptop >>> That one bothers me. Audacity won't run on a network. It's strictly local machine software. That and most institutions will not allow "Beta" software and "Beta" Audacity 1.3.12 is the only one that's stable (odd, but true). Audacity 1.2 is no longe...

Re: Problem Removing Spoken Words From Video Clip

Probably not. Vocal Remover and most of the other fancy-pants tools only work on a stereo sound file or show. They use left and right direction to tell which is voice and which is everything else. Mono has no left and right, so no tools. From what you have, anything likely to remove the voice is goi...
