Did you press Stop? If your recording is just paused, none of the tools work.

Re: USB microphone TOO MUCH GAIN
You can get what appears to be too much gain if you have Mix-Out or one of the Internet Recording services running and effectively record the microphone twice by accident. Since the microphone is in feedback, all you would need is some sound and the volume would go nuts and the controls would seem t...

Re: problem with noise removal after effect
You should not be using Audacity 1.2 noise removal. The tool in Audacity 1.3.12 is much improved. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Sound damage after noise removal is the result of removing "too much" noise. You cut into the show by accident. It's a violin. You need to tune it carefully f...

Re: Audacity noob needs help with filtering noise
Do exactly that. Reduce the show to mono (if it's stereo) and export it as FLAC type of file. That will give us enough to chew on and the quality level we get will be the same quality you have. No MP3 damage. You should be able to get maybe eight to ten seconds in a music file. The system will warn ...

Re: Low Volume When Recording
Good point, although more complex than you think. If you record without headphones, the auto echo cancellation in many newer Windows machines will try to manage your show volume to avoid feedback screaming and encourage video and audio conferencing. Generally, it screws up live recording. Sometimes ...

Re: rookie idiot in need of help
Does it sound normal when you play that one second, or is it insanely speeded up like it's on drugs? By where did you get it from, I mean did you download it? Did you purchase a Music CD with the song on it? iTunes? Typically, a failure to open music means Audacity doesn't recognize the music format...

You almost told us where the music was. Where is it? What are you trying to open?

Re: Audacity noob needs help with filtering noise
The rule of thumb is that you can suppress sounds that do not change. If you have (minor) microphone hum or maybe air conditioning noises or lighting whine or buzz, those are relatively easy. Anything that stays exactly the same over the course of the show. Most people, however, consider noise anyth...

Re: Splitting Recordings
I know the next post is where you object to the dialog being interrupted in the middle of a word. Fixing that is much more involved....
