Re: No Sound on "Play"
Audacity isn't a WAV editor and won't Save a music file. You have to Export to get a sound file -- always. There are ways to easily break up a long performance into Music CD "songs" and there are a number of tricks to this. If you're using a turntable, there are pages of tricks to get rid ...

Re: No Sound on "Play"
Audacity 1.3.12 is the current release for everybody. The older Audacity 1.2 won't even run on some newer Macs. The sound on a Music CD is a sister of WAV, not OGG. Set Audacity for 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and restart. The whole chain should be running at the same technical standard because that's wha...

Re: L/R Channel Imbalance
I've been relying on my meters too long to stop. Did you know the Audacity meters only measure the positive-going waves? I created a test track and noted the meter values. Then I flipped the track polarity and the meters were clearly (in this case) different. They should not have been. One of the sp...

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
The other thing that forces you to do is accurately select a wide segment of music by click-dragging. I guess you could select the music the conventional way and drag select the interstitial trash. The cool thing about the simple label point set is you can do it to stunning accuracy, unlike the othe...

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
Yes, but then you have to figure out Region Labels. No small feat. You can't, for example select a region and assign a label to it -- AFAIK.

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
There's a way to cheat here. If you have long gaps between songs, you don't have to edit them out. Just put a label at the beginning of each gap and throw them away later.

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
The most you can ever get onto a music CD is about 78 minutes. It says 80, but you can never actually get there. After you get one 78 minute chunk the way you want it, Put labels (Control B) at the Beginning of each song. Then File > Export Multiple. That tool will break the show up into individual ...

Re: Recording - Distortion/Hiss
And yes, Mix and Render just adds all the tracks up for the final show. It's really easy to create weapons grade distortion and clipping in this step. Select all the tracks and Effect > Amplify and reduce everything 10dB or more and then render.

Re: Recording - Distortion/Hiss
Mixes that seem to change by themselves can be caused by that Windows Conference thing. Did you go down and look for those settings? Windows machines don't always overload the same way they used to. Post some of the distortion. Render everything to mono and Export a segment as FLAC audio and post it...
