Re: Recording - Distortion/Hiss
That puts you in the group having trouble recording rock concerts. They face two different overloads: the moving element inside the microphone stops moving freely and generates distortion, and even if it survives, it can generate such high electrical signals that it overloads the microphone amplifie...

Re: backing up project
<<<Export the tracks as WAV files.>>> That's not a fluffy choice of words. WAV files are perfect quality and acceptable on all three computer platforms and can be used for post production and editing. MP3 files are small, convenient and play anywhere, but can't be used for post production because of...

Re: MP3's on CD
Go for the hard connection. FM transmitters work a good deal less well in Major Metro Areas like LA where all the legal FM air channels are full. And that bit about the music always starts at the beginning is much more of a problem when you like to listen to hour-long dramatic shows. Say you're 45 m...

Re: Editing My Voice in Audacity to Mimic Another Voice
Voice conversion, when it's done at all, is done by very specialized software -- usually money-based. There is no shortage of requests to turn an X voice into Y. X and Y can be Man, Woman, Child, Old Person, and Announcer (that's a popular one). Pitch shifting never works very well past one or two p...

Re: Ringo's Drum Sound
Just a note that for the home recordist, the room itself is likely to be a significant sound consideration in addition to the microphone placement. You may be juggling microphone deployment so you don't pick up the walls and ceiling slap and echo. That goes a long way to determining the sound.

Re: Recording - Distortion/Hiss
In the event that you have both kinds of guitars, you're stuck with a sound mixer or mixing desk. You may not use two or more connections to a computer at the same time, particularly of different character like that, without very serious and/or expensive considerations. This kills the podcast people...

Re: Recording - Distortion/Hiss
The Long Version: The electrical output of a guitar pickup -- certainly the one that I measured -- is just slightly weaker than full line level. You should be able to plug this signal into any Line-In and have very good results. The Line-In and the Instrument-In of many amplifiers are two connection...

Re: Help cleaning up live audio
If it's just too much bass, you may be able to go a long way with the equalizer. The center line in the equalizer tool is a rubber band and you can grab and push it around. This is a tool I "made" to lower the air conditioning rumble in a live performance... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/...
