Hardware memory problems can cause that, too, but that's much more serious. Hope for the hard drive.

Re: Recording meter stopped/frozen
Did you run out of hard drive space? Audacity will not work into a full or badly fragmented hard drive. Defrag -- Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties (Used, Remaining) -- Tools > Error Checking & Defragmentation A production hard drive should never be over about...

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
Yes, we complained about that. "Why couldn't you have called it ChrisCompressor or something like that through the whole process?" Load any show version on the timeline and Effect > Compress Dynamics. That's it. The only option I ever needed was change the default compression number from 0...

Re: newbie questions - creating a CD
<<<put labels (CTRL B) in between songs.>>> Note that isn't what I said. I said put a label at the beginning of each song. People always leave out the first song. Before you Export Multiple, run Chris's Compressor on the show to even out the variations and boost the overall volume. Chris's Compresso...

Re: Editing My Voice in Audacity to Mimic Another Voice
I guess that was me thinking firmly inside the box. You don't have to convert the voice. You can start with printed text and then, we assume, patch it up a little here and there if the automatic synth software misses it. I guess if you were really into pain and torture, you could use capture softwar...

Re: MP3's on CD
Music CDs aren't file based. They are a continuous streaming track with a simple pointer address track near the hub. They were doing anything they could to save space and increase music quality when they designed the format. It's a simple matter to just not move the laser when you turn the car off a...

Re: The Ultimate Audio Cleanup Challenge
What are you going to do when we say forget it? The recorder or the microphone itself overloaded periodically and that's what gave you the blank spots. The rest of the show is in clipping overload which is petty much fatal. That's the red bits. Picture 1.png You might give this a tiny push with the ...

Re: MP3's on CD
Yes. It keeps my pause point all the while it's sleeping. It will restart in the middle of a word if I want. Back up very slightly and go.
If I let it stop the operating system, then it goes back to the beginning.

Re: MP3's on CD
Music CDs are a special beast because they have a space-saving arrangement that lends itself to starting from anywhere. Data carriers are file based. If anything happens to the orderly dance, they start over at the next even file barrier, the song in your case, but unfortunately, the beginning of th...
