I think I see. In the old system, you were using the mixer as a, well, mixer. You open up multiple connections and fade between them for the show.
You're right. That's pretty unusual now. External mixer time.

Re: Stereo Mic Input Versus Line Input
Most "computer" microphones depend on this 5 volt battery being supplied by the computer. If you buy an analog headset with earpieces and a microphone on a boom it will almost certainly need that battery connection from the illustration. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Plantronics+-+Multimedia...

Re: Issue with Chris's compressor
You may not need Chris at all. You should probably dredge around in the compressor built into Audacity. Effects > Compressor. Or maybe the more vigorous Effect > Leveler. Chris makes basic assumptions about your show -- that it's pretty reasonable as it is and it needs some help. If you read his pag...

Re: Distorted sound durring playback
You can get into trouble by plowing right into advanced recording studio settings before you get the basics down. This may have contributed to the failure of Cubase. Set everything you can to sound standard of 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity after you change Audacity Preferences. This is the...

Chris's Compressor http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ Amplify and the badly named "Normalize" are arithmetic tools. They do specific calculations to the blue waves on the timeline and the show loudness is completely beside the point. Chris's tool was designed specifically to e...

Re: Why does Space Bar return to start of track?
I actually did that once and yes, it wrecks editing. I edit a number of show files each week and I got it so you can't see my fingers move. Getting in and out of Pause just kicks the efficiency in the head. Pause is absolutely not Stop.

Re: Exported MP3 Files Seem to Play Poorly on iTunes
Please post a short (five seconds) sample of the damaged track. The upload limit is 1MB, so whatever you can cram into that size will work. Down at the bottom of this frame Upload Attachment. If they're available on-line, so much the better. Sometimes a slightly damaged original work file will rippl...

What happens if you click on the blue waves at the fifteen minute mark and press the SpaceBar (Play)?

Re: 2 Terrific problems.
Step one. Drop Audacity 1.2 like a hot rock and install version 1.3.12 from here. http://audacityteam.org/download/ You don't have to uninstall Audacity 1.2, just stop using it. Audacity 1.3.12 has Latency Adjustments. Edit > Preferences > Recording > Latency. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic...

Re: Adjusting volume while recording from line in on Windows
<<<which doesn't give me nearly the power I'd like>>> Can you describe this power? Might the feeling be described as having a much more comfortable wide-range control and not have the volume changes scrunched up at one end of the fader? That's a basic programming or hardware error and you may be stu...
