Re: audacity doesn't pick up sound

Close Audacity. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Select your device in the menu -- or Line-In if it's an analog device. Make sure the volume control is up. Make sound. The Mac blue ball sound meter should jump. If it doesn't, you're doing something wrong outside the Mac. Koz

Re: Extract audio from video files?

MPEG 1, Layer 3 (MP3) is licensed from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. That's what "lame" does. H.264 compression/format is licensed from MPEG-LA (Apple, Microsoft, Sony, et al.). That's what "FFMpeg" does. None of these software packages, real or open source, can be included in the fre...

<<<I can't get it to work!>>>

Did you follow the directions? Mac people tend to be "click first and read later" people. This process is unnatural for a Mac and some settings might be counter-intuitive.

Re: Exporting as Stereo WAV Files

I don't know that we ever established this, but if you Saved an Audacity Project in 44100, 32-bit Floating (Audacity default) then the show may not be clipping...yet. Open the project -- not the Export -- and apply Effect > Amplify at -3dB and see if the harsh, gritty sound goes away. You may not ne...

Re: Exporting as Stereo WAV Files

<<<is there anyway of importing my tracks and bringing the db level down to a reasonable level?>>> Certainly, in many different tools like Effect > Amplify (using a negative number). But what you can't do is fix crunchy, crackling overload distortion. That's usually fatal and we warn people until ou...

<<<It should be absolutely no trouble at all for them to work with mono files if they know what they are doing.>>> ...or they work in a large company trying to manage thousands of clips and files. Re: Error when encoding to MP3

It's not just a higher version. Audacity needs to see a customized version of lame appropriate to the Audacity version.

http://audacityteam.org/download/

Get the lame from the same place you got the Audacity download.

Topic?

Oh, right. The microphone.

The poster has not returned, so he either got it working, gave up, or thinks this is one of those forums with a week-long turnaround time.
