Re: Can't hear recordings
If your recorder mounts like a disk drive, you may be opening your sound file "hot" from the device. Audacity does not copy music into itself for editing unless you change it in preferences. So when you turn off your recorder, there goes the show. Try actually copying the file to your desk...

Re: batch removal of Title metadata
<<<But is there a batch way to change just that part of the metadata info, to erase Title .. for all files in a folder?>>>
There isn't even a very good one-at-a-time way. Google "Mac Edit MP3 Metadata."

Re: Cassette to CD using Audacity on Mac OS X
It's really easy to get noise reduction artifacts: bubbling, gargling, squeeking. Noise reduction is one of those violins that needs tuning and careful playing. Sometimes it helps to start with the default values of all the tools and really screw one of them up and see what it does. Attack and Decay...

Re: Why are files always saved differently?
Audacity always Exports the same show the same way. It may not be the same as the show you opened. Audacity converts many shows to a very high quality internal format for editing and effects without excessive damage. This unavoidably leads to people noticing the two shows don't quite match. It posit...

Re: How to select? (for deleting portions of audio)
There are tools that can be used for this, but for maximum stability, I would be using Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can use Labels to simulate Edit Points. I think on Windows it's Control-B will plant a label where ever you want it, even during Play. Then, you c...

Re: Potential bug: Instability when recording streamed media
If you got a nice velvety 20 minute silent stretch, then the bitstream dropped off. It happens here every so often, but it is pretty rare, since I have DSL. It happens more often to the Digital Cable people who have screaming fast connections -- as long as the neighbors don't decide to download 3D H...

You can get Effect > Vocoder to do something like that.
This is the Frampton Geico commercial effect.

Re: compensating for too much input gain after the fact
You're clear what you did wrong, so that's half the battle. We've been recommending the UCA202 USB connected sound card for High Level Stereo Input (and output). http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx There is a tool in Audacity 1.3.12 called Effect > Clip Fix. It may help a little. Reduce...

Re: Recording stuff
Missed one "rule." Editing is ten to one. It almost always takes around ten hours to crank out an hour show. If you do a good job. Maybe an hour more or less, but almost always right around there.

Re: Recording stuff
Step One. Stop using Audacity 1.2. 1.2 is no longer supported, updated or patched. On some machines it's unstable. Get Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ That same site should also give you "lame" and "FFMpeg" which are plugins that let you manage mp4 ...
