Re: newbie, please help me.

Your Mac is probably recording the wrong thing. Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input Pick where you want to record the show from. My bet is you're recording the Mac's built-in microphone. Then launch Audacity > Preferences > Devices and make sure that matches. If you ch...

Re: Can I record a running 60 seconds of audio?

The original ones of those had a continuous loop of audio tape. When the power in the plane went off, the tape stopped.Koz

Re: Different timecodes in audacity vs. vlc

Anyone ever experience this or know a solution? I have not experienced this. I just opened up a two hour long show in Audacity 1.3.12 and VLC player and they came out exactly the same length and a segment in the middle came out exactly correct on both. I would run, do not walk to download and use A...

Re: Convert mp3 to 16bit 16000hz

This is a krib sheet I wrote about this. Yes, if you change the wrong numbers, you will get a badly damaged song. Depth/Rate Conversion -- Change Project Rate (Hz) lower left > 44100 -- Track Name > Set Sample Format > 16-bit PCM -- File > Export > Format > Other uncompressed File Types You said som...

Re: volume is up and down

the volume seems to be going up and down as if the person is moving to and from the mic Were they? You can get a huge change in signal volume if the person is too close to the microphone and likes to weave around and get expressive. Back off. There is a trick they use in recording studios called th...

Re: Can I record a running 60 seconds of audio?

In abbreviated form, you want surveillance software. Record a continuous loop sometimes months long depending on your hard drive capacity and drop in anywhere and listen or export as much as you want. You can record over the months long loop repeatedly, or you can make it stop so you can archive one...

Re: Online Synthesizer help

You posted in a portion of the forum where we can't tell what kind of computer you have. You need to Record Sounds Playing On The Computer. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer Some newer PCs make it very difficult to do this without adding software and Macs alwa...

Re: Can someone remove the vocals of this song for me?

And to specifically answer you, yes, if this is going to work, it's only going to work with the WAV file ripped from the Music CD. Keep it in 44100, 16-bit, stereo and see how you do.

MP3 is a delivery format, not a production format. It creates damage.

Re: Can someone remove the vocals of this song for me?

Given the constraints you have, no dollars and no cents, then yes, that's the ball game. Our worst nightmare was the YouTube presentation where someone created a perfect karaoke song from a song with a singer. He showed how he was able to use the Audacity tools to carefully subtract the singer from ...
