Re: Everything is being recorded, not just the cassette.
But does it record? Record and Play are different problems. When you put a disk on and press record in Audacity, do you get a bouncing red sound meter and blue waves, similar to this... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg You may not be able to hear it yet. One step at a time. You po...

Re: Recording in Audacity while it's not the active program?
Second Computer.. That's also the desperation method of recording both sides of a Skype call. Audacity is a really simple program and likes running on really simple computers. It has simple connections into the OS and will not survive odd delays and control sharing. There's no shortage of people wa...

Re: Everything is being recorded, not just the cassette.
You are not recording your cassette. You are very probably recording the laptop built-in microphone which would include the whole room. Change it in Windows Control Panels. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel I'm going to pr...

Re: Non-clipping distortion
The original video is a .3gp file, which I changed to an .avi, and then posted here as a FLAC. You went through two compressions. The video capture was highly compressed and you saved it as AVI which is (usually) Windows' compressed format, effectively doubling the damage. The trip to FLAC didn't d...

Re: Files seemingly intact. No audio
When I said 'there is no sound', I was meaning that when I play the Audacity project, there is no sound being played. Nor is there any sound in the exported MP3. Yes, I get that. Do you have blue waves on the timeline and does the green sound meter jump? Does the Project open up to the right length...

Re: Files seemingly intact. No audio
All the 1.3 Audacity versions before 1.3.12 had Problems, some more serious than others. It is urged strongly that you upgrade to 1.3.12. http://audacityteam.org/download/ The full length of the file is there, but there is NO sound. Let's get painfully specific. You got done with your changes and yo...

That's what we're expecting for overload standing next to the band. Yours is far worse than that and it seems to have compression artifacts in there (gargling, ...

Re: No sound on monitor, can't record
That's problem 2. Are you on a laptop? Chances are good you have no Stereo Line-In connection. Does the connection say "Mic-In?" That's for a microphone, it's mono, and it overloads very easily.the sound was very distorted

Re: No sound on monitor, can't record
Analog Mix does not select your Line-In connection. Deselect that and find the actual Line-In. Make sure Audacity has the same thing selected in its preferences. Restart Audacity if you have to change anything.
