Re: Terrible Sound after reecording

Are you recording with the single "headset" connection on the side of your laptop? Run the other way. Those are really bad line connections but they make up for it by being a terrible headset connections, too. This is how I get the analog mixer into my machine. https://www.kozco.com/tech/a...

Re: Terrible Sound after reecording

How are you getting the mixer sound into the computer? Laptop computers haven't offered Stereo Line-In connections in years. Desktop machine still do. Is that what you have? Those connections are usually awful. Why did you elect to not record through the USB? Or did you try it and had a noisy, ticki...

Re: Terrible Sound after reecording

Just got a new analog board. That post claims it's a USB mixer. I'm thinking it's a sound card issue. If you're using the USB connection of the mixer, it doesn't go through the soundcard. That kind of distortion can be cause by either Windows itself or your Zoom/Skype connection. Both of them have ...

Re: Audacity not seeing my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 output

What happened to "plug and play?" We can inquire at Apple about that. They peeled off all the apps and services running 32-bit in favor of 64 bit. Audacity was 32-bit. High Sierra works OK. Mojave gets uncomfortable and posts warnings. Catalina just stops. I stopped blindly updating my Ma...

Re: ACX Check fails in 2.4.1

I think 2.4.2 is the hero tool. The measurements between the two most recent efforts are spittin' distance from each other when applied to shorter performances (under 17 minutes). Re: preventing tracks from getting merged together on export?

You have to export into a sound format that supports multi-track. That's not WAV or MP3. Dolby/AC3 can do that.

I thought we had instructions on this somewhere...

Re: De-esser for Mac?

I got process relatively simple with some forum hints. In Analyze > Plot Spectrum (you can probably use spectrum view for this). I read the frequencies of that blue haystack on the right. That's not normal and that's "essing." Essing.jpg So that gives me the two bracket frequencies (read a...

Re: Clicks Appearing When Pasting Ambient Room Sound

I think I got it. Your pasted noise sample isn't clean. The second click in your posted example starts out "grass" or pure noise (blue line) but then rises into a real sound (red line). At that exact instant you cut back to the performance which gives you a click or pop (green line). PopAt...

Re: Clicks Appearing When Pasting Ambient Room Sound

Thanks again for your help Trebor. Just a note we didn't solve the problem. We just covered it up. I'm curious how you found the damage. Even after mastering and processing, the pops are, by my measure some -66dB. which is quieter than the audiobook standards for background noise. If you hadn't tol...

when files have been ACXed they are more prominent Even more important to get a sample. The first step in Mastering is Low Rolloff that typically suppresses low pitch tones—thunder and trucks going by, but the next step typically increases overall volume. That's the point where everything gets loud...
