Re: mono to "stereo"
Whatever you do, the process is easier in Audacity 1.3.12. http://audacityteam.org/download/ If you use an Intel Mac with Leopard or Snow Leopard, then it's only a matter of time before the older Audacity does something messy to you. It's no longer supported or updated. But so far, this is a normal ...

Noise Reduction Trick
It's pretty common to amplify noise before making it a profile in Noise Reduction. Is it common enough to burn it permanently into the effect?

Re: Stereo Track is Silent???
I made a sound system test file.... http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhaset4.wav It's in four segments where I identify left, right, mono, and a phase error. In a normal stereo system, you will hear all four segments although the last one will sound funny. If you have a problem, you will be missing o...

Re: Stereo Track is Silent???
You never said the words, "The stereo track plays by itself." Does it? It's possible to wire a microphone wrong so it will produce perfect appearing blue waves but vanishes in a mono speaker system. Also, Mute is only one of the two buttons, Solo is the other. Are you listening on headphon...
Re: Effects?
One of my complaints about Audacity is the need to delete effects in reverse order that they were applied, and no listing I know of.

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
My mic socket is stereo Your microphone show appears to be stereo as does mine, but that's a trick of the electronics. It's just one mono signal copied to both sides. If it is stereo, where does the computer put the battery voltage? Second Illustration: http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/aud...

Re: Noise profile never changes
The noise profile is the snippet of sound you capture to "train" the noise reduction system. The system will try to subtract the profile from the show. How it does it is up to the tools which are the settings you mention. It's up to you to apply the reduction in an intelligent manner and y...

Re: Using audacity to measure the speed of sound
about 3.5 meters apart. The way I understand it, you don't have 3.5M. We are warned at great length not to put two microphones on a podium. No matter what you do, you are going to get phase cancellation between them and wooshing, rain barrel effects as the speaker moves around. I saw a demonstratio...
