Re: Recording from cell phone, sounds like Max Headroom
Audacity and in fact most live production programs audio or video will not run into a full and/or badly fragmented hard drive. Empty out until there's between 10% and 20% free space on your system drive and then run error check once and defragment multiple times. If you've never defragmented your ma...

Re: Unable to open target file for writing
This can happen if you decide to put a date or other illegal character in the filename. Upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore, and dash are the only unconditionally safe characters in filenames.
Write dates 20110103, not 11/3/11.

Re: What kind of effects used in these?
Then there's AutoTune. Software that will not let you sing off key. I played the clip multiple times looking for the tonal snapping that...

Re: No sound when recording - used to work
Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Switch that to the device you want the sound to come from. You may have to go back and change Audacity again. If you change Audacity, restart it.

Re: What kind of effects used in these?
The dynamic compressor..I'm using Audacity 1.3, I feel like that is already loaded in as one of the effects. Am I wrong in this? The Dynamic Compressor is, but Chris's Compressor does a much better job. The built-in effect is an arithmetic tool. Chris is more musical. I've been leaning closer and c...

Re: Audacity will not record
Is there any way to try the turntable on another computer? Did you save the receipts? Do you have any other USB devices you can try on your computer, like a thumb drive? USB turntables are throw-away devices. Everybody knows that when the last record is transferred, the turntable is going in the tra...

You might also try more complicated instruments in the background. It's easier to hide behind violins than a single piano.
