Re: Multiple Tracks Distort on Playback
Audacity adds up all the sound on all the tracks. If you have 100% full tracks and play three of them, that will amount to crushing distortion. Select each track and Effect > Amplify > Amplification, -6dB. Don't set New Peak Amplitude. That's a different tool. You can set presentation volume at the ...

Re: Poor audio quality
I want to re-emphasize that the noise reduction in Audacity 1.3.12 is nothing like the one in earlier versions. If you got good with that one, you're not good any more. I had previously tried just USB-no go. That bothers me. Unplug the audio lead from the Mac and plug the USB back in. Apple > System...

Windows 7 on what kind of computer? Dell Inspiron laptop? Lenovo A6?
I'm reading the thread again. What kind of microphone do you have? Company and model numbers go a long way for us.

Re: cannot record sound playing on my desktop
The main problem is Windows has been hiding these tools better and better. Some newer machines are missing those tools completely. Mix-Out (typical name) is a dance between the software drivers, the sound card and Windows. If any of them feels like not cooperating, that's the end of the game. Rememb...

Re: Changing Stereo to Mono
The earlier Audacity versions between 1.3.5 and 1.3.9 all had serious operations problems. 1.3.12 was the first version in a long time that had very minor problems and solved way more problems that it created. It's almost universally recommended over all the other versions. http://audacityteam.org/d...

Re: Play Speed 30 times normal
Three problems: -- You need to be in Audacity 1.3.12 to do any fancy work like this. http://audacityteam.org/download/ -- You also need the FFMpeg software from the same place you got Audacity. That should allow you to play the sound file. -- You probably can't do this at all. How bad is the backgro...

Re: recording
You stumped the band so far, so maybe we can get something with a little more information. Is this a laptop? You never actually said so. We know it's running Windows XP. What are you recording? Cassette tape machine? Microphone? Sound Mixer?

Re: Maximizer effect available?
The sonic Maximizer tools appear to work on individual instrument tracks. According to their demo, you can manage equalization and harmonic generation (controlled distortion) dynamically in real time. Audacity doesn't do anything in real time, so that would take forever to adjust. It also wouldn't w...

Re: Maximizer effect available?
This is now classic User Operated Help Forum. Unless one of the elves has Sonic Maximizer, you get to wait for a regular user to post.
That could take a while.

Re: Blue Yeti - ZERO LATENCY
Not in Audacity 1.2, you won't. Audacity 1.3.12 has a latency correction feature. You can have both versions on your system, but only use one at a time. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Audacity 1.3.12 will not correct real-time microphone latency, but I understood there was a way to get Windows to...
