Re: how to import WAV file
What did I do wrong? Assume it's a WAV file. It's not, or Audacity would be able to play it. You can play it anyway in Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ And get the FFMpeg and lame software packages from the same place and install both. You don't have to uninstall Audac...

Do you have to "be" your son to uninstall the program? Does your computer have multiple logins?
I need to go find how to edit the Registry. I believe somebody did post once how to do that.

Re: Does 1.3 do any of the things I don't like about 1.2.6?
I don't know of any recording equipment (hardware or software) that monitors the recording level by default on switch-on. All professional recording systems provide some method of monitoring the input system at switch-on. That's their default. When you press Play, the system gracefully switches fro...

Re: low volume level in MP3
You can put both Audacity versions on your computer, just don't try to use both at once. Do you like to record internet audio, like YouTube? When you're in Audacity 1.3.12, make sure you're recording from the computer Line-In and not from Mix-Out. Mix-Out will create a feedback loop if you try to re...

Re: uninstalling 1.2.6
You should use the Windows tools to uninstall Audacity. Start > Control Panels > Add or Remove Software. Typically, Windows leaves the screen icons laying around and those will have to be deleted manually. Removing Audacity from the command line is not for the faint of heart. Audacity 1.2 burns itse...

Directional microphones have proximity effect. You get more bass-rumbly radio announcer as you get closer to the microphone. It also increases pops and clicks when you get close. So don't get close. Pops tend to happen if you're within about 8 inches or so from the mic. So back off. It's an industry...

Re: extract voice from audio ripped from video
You can install the lame software package and then Audacity will be able to export MP3 music. What you can't do is unmix a mixed performance. You can't separate the voices from of a song, the violins from a symphony, or the drums from a jazz band.

Re: computer noise while recording
That may be a little overkill. We've been recommending something like this... http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx It's pretty plain and simple. Stereo in and Stereo out. The danger of too many features if you spend most of your time managing the features and not managing the music. Koz
