Re: AIFF Exports Won't Play On iPod

One of Audacity's oddball failings is it will try to manage and play a sound file even though it's damaged or Audacity can't do a good job. That accounts for all the complaints that Audacity plays compressed music at 5000 miles per hour. It doesn't really do that. It's just playing the file as if it...

Re: Creates new track every 12 seconds

When you start experiencing Audacity Insanity is usually the time we chase you over to Audacity 1.3.12. See if you can uninstall Audacity 1.2 (remember what your custom setting were, if any) and then go up and get the 1.3.12 installer from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ If you need MP3 an...

Re: AIFF Exports Won't Play On iPod

I tried this on a more modern machine and my Quicktime INFO datarate is 1535.96 kbp/s. Let's crank through the numbers. Which OS-X, which Audacity version, what machine, which iPod? Since you have to go through iTunes twice, let's split that up. Get piano2.wav from here: http://www.kozco.com/tech/so...

Re: AIFF Exports Won't Play On iPod

None. It's the same thing. I just did your exact test with my iPod and an .aiff file and it worked fine.

Is the aiff file produced by Switch 48000, too? My test was with 44100.

[time passes]

Nope. I tried 48000 and that worked, too.

I'm stumped....

Re: Do temporary files get overwritten if they weren't saved

Audacity makes terrible archives. Any time you have valuable work, Export As WAV immediately and make a safety copy of the file(s) on a thumb drive, external hard drive, or backup system. The only time this doesn't work is if you have a multi-track Project. Then, you're stuck with Save Project. As y...

Re: Voice over music volume

The illustration is of a sound track greatly overloaded, but you can use the Amplify tool to bring it back down. You shouldn't have sound going over "1." You can use the Envelope tool (two white arrows and bent blue line) to "duck" your music track when your voice arrives, or the...

Re: Does 1.3 do any of the things I don't like about 1.2.6?

the careful user keeps a copy of the raw recording until the editing is done. How many people do you know that actually do that? We get many people on the forum who don't and I think it's terrible practice to overwrite older files, or make it convenient to do so. Audacity has enough gotchas without...

Re: Best Practices?

I started writing this twice.

What are you doing that requires that many tools? That's the tool list required for a very badly damaged, irreplaceable recording, not one that you produced live under carefully controlled conditions.

Re: Audacity stuttering on original recording

I know you have a "new" machine, etc. etc. but how much room, exactly, do you have on your hard drive and when was the last time you error checked and defragmented? Audacity will not work into a fragmented drive or one that's too full. Audio (and video) production programs are frequently t...

Re: AIFF Exports Won't Play On iPod

Before you pull the songs into iTunes, Open one with QuickTime Player and Command-I Info panel. Does the INFO panel look anything like that? Your 48000 may say 44100 instead.
