Re: Best Practices?

You might try Chris's Compressor. Chris's Compressor http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ Unlike the compressors and limiters inside Audacity, Chris is "musical." I bet that goes a long way to evening out the volume variations of the performance. Even better, once you have a set...

Re: input clipping; &: pasting from 1 track to next

In reverse order. The music format on a CD is WAV. If you create an MP3 in the middle of the process, you needlessly add compression distortion. What are you using to burn the CD? Windows Media in Win2K didn't have a burner. Can't get it mid way or 3/4. Windows Control Panels have a lot to do with h...

Re: Imported tunes lose volume

And also, you know that iTunes has its own volume control different from the main Mac one right? When you're recording, you don't use that one.

Re: Imported tunes lose volume

the volume is significantly less...
Less that what? What are you comparing it to?

And which one of the capture processes did you use? The analog one or the USB digital one? Many USB turntables can do both.

Re: Recording interruptions

You can see the hard drive activity light, right? If you start a recording, you should get a light at the beginning and then a flash about every five or ten seconds as Audacity writes the show to the disk. If your drive starts thrashing and the light comes on constantly, or anything more than a leis...

Re: no sound from one track

Never use Audacity Projects for Archive. As you're finding out, you can't easily move a project -- particularly if it's complicated. Export As WAV and archive those. This won't work if you need to archive a show with multiple tracks. There, you're stuck with a Project. Even if you do carefully save ...

Re: Noise Reduction of background hummng

I'm going with Noisy and Difficult. If you have a damaged voice track with broadband hiss, it's almost impossible to remove the noise during each spoken word. The noise signal will appear to pump and swish with the vocals. You can certainly take the noise out from the words, too. That's the setting ...

Re: no sound from one track

You should, almost without question, be using Audacity 1.3.12... http://audacityteam.org/download/ Sooner or alter, you're going to run into an oddity that is a result of Audacity 1.2 being a thousand years old and no longer patched, updated, or repaired. Get the lame and FFMpeg software from the sa...

Re: no sound from one track

I've used Audacity for several years now and have never seen this problem. You were lucky. The second track has no sound, yet I can see its waveform. The waveform comes from two picture files and can get badly out of step with the actual show. Did the project not save properly? Yes, the Project sav...

Re: File won't open

Open the aup file in any text editor and read it. The first or second line of text should tell you what the original filenames were.
