That's the idea. Even if it doesn't help, I want to listen to the effect with the filter applied.

Remove Limiting
Here's the idea. I have a clip that has been peak limited to the point of creating mild distortion. I want to un-peak limit it. I want to run Leveler upside down. When you hit this threshold, increase the gain by this much. The Compressor effect tries to help out by being gentle and smooth. I don't ...

Re: Slight Delay when monitoring
Any time you have a speaker and microphone in the same room, you may get feedback. That's why the grownups all use headphones for live performance. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg So that's normal. The trick of avoiding the real time echo is to select the microphone (or input system) in ...

Re: Need to change a mono project into stereo mp3
Step One. Open the existing Project and Export a WAV file of the work. That's the emergency backup sound file. Audacity will not *save* a sound file and Projects are brittle and easily damaged. I think the easiest way is to make the show a real mono show. That sound should play out of both speakers....

Re: Noise Reduction of background hummng
I know it's bad form to directly compare other programs, but I swear CoolEdit had settings for profile capture as well as application.

Re: Noise Reduction of background hummng
Why not Amplify at the default settings? Wouldn't you want the largest sample you could get short of clipping?Amplify the copied noise by about 8 dB using the Amplify effect.
Amplify will not affect the dynamic range of the sample, so all characteristics would be preserved.

Re: Imported tunes lose volume
That's the loudness war problem. My CD is louder than your CD. No, Amplify is just going to create problems. Try Chris's Compressor. Chris's Compressor http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ Chris can make a significant boost in volume and even out phrase by phrase volume variations. iTunes...

Re: How good does a tape deck need to be?
Straight old oxide cassettes "worked" (in quotes) but nobody would mistake putting music on one. Over the course of their production run, the material on the backing went through at least two upgrades, chromium and metal, and the recording pre-processing went through two different equalizi...
