Re: audio damage when importing then exprting mp3????
That's correct. WAV files can have problems, too, but those problems are mere piffles compared to MP3 damage. You can go back to MP3 if you need to, but you'll need to do it at a very high bitrate, almost making it not worth it. Broadcast Television Production, Music CD and PCM tracks on Movie DVDs ...

Re: audio damage when importing then exprting mp3????
It pretty much doubles. If you try to import and export an MP3 at the same bitrate and the original was already cutting it close, the output will be unusable. There are two ways around this in Audacity. Export the new MP3 at a nosebleed high bitrate (360 or higher) or Export an uncompressed format, ...

I see Steve missed Chris's Compressor.

Chris does a reasonably good job of auto leveling a performance without seeming to do anything. It gets louder, too.

Re: Specialty cable? 1/8" stereo to two 1/4" stereo plugs
Newark, Digikey, and Markertek. I think I have accounts with all three. I've been known to buy the closest R/S part and then take a soldering iron to it for changes. R/S has started carrying Monster Cable branded cables and the older cheap cables are getting harder and harder to find. The company ha...

Re: Trouble adding new tracks
For live recording, you can either Pause-Record and then Pause again to start the second song, or play a song, Stop, and Shift-Record. This is "Append Record," and will start a new recording at the cursor location. For mixed files, you can open one and import the other. Select the second o...

Re: Easy tempo adjustments?
It's worse than that. Most BPM software is guesswork and easily thrown off by break sections within a song. Both MP3 and AAC file formats are compressed with a destructive process. Quality is permanently impaired. If you do editing and production on a song, you will need to recompress it at a much h...

The best I can do is point you to the Hardware forum where they discuss multi-track. Multi-track was serious magic for years and the elves decided to post experiences and configurations that worked. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=38626&start=0 This is the biggest single c...

Re: Problem recording DJ mix
Yeah. You totally have too many things plugged in and too many sound pathways. There should be one stereo Line-Out or Program or some name like that from the mixer and it has your completed show on it, fades and all. We're secretly enjoying your post. Most people post that they can't get their show ...

You should reset the Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and then restart Audacity. And you should also be in Audacity 1.3.12.
