Re: Win 7

Really? Crashes Windows 7? The computer reboots? If that's true, you have a bad memory stick (or other hardware component). You can test for this using the Microsoft Memory Diagnostic. http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp It's quite a production. You have to make a bootable floppy or CD and run t...

Re: Audacity not recognising VOX

Did you try installing the FFMpeg software? That's the grab-bag software that will manage many different sound file formats. Get it from the same place you got your Audacity.

Re: Audacity Documents that SELF DESTRUCT!

The short version is stop overwriting your work as you go, or at least don't step directly on imported files. Many editors like to Save a Project with a new name as they go. If it's important enough, I Export a new sound file periodically and save a Project. I never step on old work. The powerful Ho...

Re: Amplify effect not working

And just to be clear, Amplify and its cousin Normalize are arithmetic tools. They do their job and don't pay the slightest bit of attention to the sound, music or show. If the loudest part of the show was a gunshot or other loud event, then that gunshot will be placed at the highest number (0 if tha...

Re: Audacity Documents that SELF DESTRUCT!

In my tests on Mac, Audacity is actually faster when copying in files before editing. I did that to a two-hour show editing session once and trust me, it did not speed up. Sudden, unexplained computer insanity can be caused by your hard drive filling up. Go > Utilities > Disk Utilities > Select you...

Re: Error While Opening Sound Device

It works for Sonar Le, I don't know why, but even so it messes up Windows 7 is telling me there's an unknown error everytime I try to update my computer. So you know your computer is broken.... Audacity will not work on a computer that's not in perfect order. You may need to turn it over to someone...

Re: Static starts at second 26 when recording

I am (trying to) record a voice track over an imported mp3.
You need to flesh that out a little. You're playing an MP3 in Audacity and listening to it while you record your live voice...how? What are you speaking into and how is it connected?

Re: Audacity Documents that SELF DESTRUCT!

Audacity doesn't pull music inside itself for editing. Instead, Audacity goes out to each music file on your computer as it's needed and plays it. The music files never move. If you do something to the music files -- like clean up, rename, or delete them, that's the end of your show. You can get you...

Re: Downgrading bit rate from MP3 to MP3

I'm struggling creating a smaller MP3 file from current MP3 files. Say in the same breath: "And double the compression distortion." You're not actually compressing the show. You're compressing the show plus all the damage of the first compression. MP3 is a destructive compressor. It alway...

I can't help wondering if there was already a "southboundpachyderm," and that's why you have to be "1."
