Re: MP3 compression?

The fuzzy encoding numbers are 32k in mono and 64k in stereo. Lower than those two numbers and most people can tell there's something wrong with the sound. Gargling, bubbling, honking. Also remember that Audacity will not save a sound file. If you're gazing longingly at the tiny AUP file, please not...

Re: Audacity doesn't see my mic

It's good to know the earlier version works. That eliminates a lot of possibilities. You should go into Audacity Preferences and make sure they're pointed to the same place that your Windows is -- devices. You could also open up your old version and write that down as a reference for y our new one. ...

Re: Cutoff below a certain magnitude.

I've also changed the mic, it tends to pick up less noise. And that is the only way to do this job. You can't pull the man's voice out of the trash with software in post production. It will always sound terrible. Watch the newsies on TV. They use directional lavaliere microphones or directional han...

Re: Force EQ

I guess I was just wondering if anything was made or could easily be made that would do it. No. Equalizers are not one thing. They are designed differently depending on how much money the designer had to work with and how much sound damage is to be tolerated. Trying to "undo" equalization...

Re: Recording Sermons, putting them on CDs

Step one is to stop making MP3 files. Music CDs have a fixed, firm, uncompressed music format and will hold 80 minutes of very high quality show -- really around 78 minutes. Full stop. No options. The newer automobile music players can handle Music CDs just fine, but can also deal with Data CDs cont...

Re: MP3 compression?

There doesn't seem to be a setting for a mono MP3 file. There's Joint Stereo and Real Stereo, even if I start out life with a single-channel mono performance.

Re: Audacity doesn't see my mic

Good description, but you left out the microphone. What is it? How is it connected? USB? If you've been doing this for a long time, did you finally start to fill up your hard drive? Defrag -- Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties (Used, Remaining) -- Tools > Error Che...

Re: Audacity can't find ffmpeg and lame files

I'm wondering if a non-administrator user can install lame and FFMpeg at all. It's not normal for you to have to go through all that grief to get lame and FFMpeg working. That's one reason they come with an installer instead of just dumping the files in your lap like what used to happen. I think I j...

Re: How do I put 2 songs on audacity?

One more point. You should start using Audacity 1.3.12.

http://audacityteam.org/download/

Audacity 1.2 is no longer supported, updated, or patched.

Also, if your songs start playing at funny speeds, you may need "lame" and "FFMpeg" software packages from the same place.

Re: How do I put 2 songs on audacity?

Launch Audacity and File > Open one song and File > Import the other. Then you can use the Time Shift and Envelope tools to fade back and forth between the two. If you want them one after the other, Copy the second song and Paste it behind the first. The Solo and Mute buttons for each track determin...
