Re: Audiocassette decks--which model should I use?
Once you get beyond the basic high-end turntables, attention should be paid to the accuracy and noise level of the RIAA preamplfier and cleaning the records and playing in a slightly high humidity room (static electric problems). We would all like to think we can wave our software wands and banish a...

Re: Auto file-creation while recording from tape
What kills these tools is real world recordings. If each "silent' groove has a pop or click at the wrong place, the tools will not see the space as "silence" and go around it. In cassette recordings, a plain vanilla cassette, no CrO2 or Dolby, etc. can have background hiss the same le...

Re: Realtek won't accept USB?
Slippery words. You're using the Input side of one device and the output side of the other. What users invariably want to do is record from both. That you can't do.

Re: sound distortion
That was just the easy answer. Yes, you should be solving the problems at the beginning. There's no shortage of problems with ION turntables. They're not designed to be left to your grandson. They're designed to play the last record and then fall to dust. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?...

Re: sound distortion
In Audacity 1.2, you had to select some audio (or all of it) to get the Effects to work. Koz

Re: Virtual Audio cables, and multi device recording
Money-based software causes all sorts of windows to open up, ASIO drivers, Fraunhofer MP3, etc, etc. All closed to Audacity because of its price tag.

Re: 2 track recording problems
There's pages of reasons for the track to distort, but not after 20 seconds. Delayed distortion almost always points to Windows Enhanced Services thinking you're trying to make a Skype or conference call. Make sure those services are off. Re: Fading in/out seamless
What I mean by a perfect loop point is two places on the music where you can jam them end to end -- without fading -- and the cut will appear to vanish. Normal people listening will not be able to tell where you put the cut. Some music, particularly if there's vocals demand that the edit or fade occ...

Re: Can I reduce input level below 0.1?
We assume you're recording straight analog with an RCA to 1/8" stereo cable plugged into your Mac. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Audio > Input. Select Line-In or Built-In Line-In. Play something and adjust the level control until the blue bouncing meter is in the upper third. Close ev...

Re: Record from Vinyl and Play in iTunes?
If you already have recordings in Audacity, you can put a "Label" (Command-B) at the Beginning of each song and then File > Export Multiple > Microsoft WAV. Forget MP3. Audacity will create a numbered pile of music files, one file per song. Drag the pile over to iTunes.
