Re: compress file size?
File > Export > MP3 Files > Options > Quality. That's the compression bitrate. 32 for a mono show and 64 for stereo are considered minimums. Lower than that and most people can hear MP3 damage -- bubbling, gargling, and honking. Audacity picks a nice 128 that's good for most people and most shows. I...

Re: Best recording equipment for podcasting over the web
are online and chatting via a programme like Skype (I know of a lot of podcasts run like this). You should probably contact them and find out how they do it. It's not trivial. Skype is ego-centric. You run Skype and it takes over the computer. There are money-based software products like Pamela tha...

Re: Is a faster computer better ?
The memory is 384 mbs of PC 100. Probably 384MB amount of PC100 speed memory. Yes, I have a machine like that. Also still working. Steve didn't mention this, but live recordings soak up hard drive space in a hurry. CD quality music goes by at about 10MB per minute. If you have a modest hard drive y...

Re: Ringtone too metallic
It's possible you're overloading the phone's little sound system. There is a wiki about this: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Making_Ringtones Ringtone players are not wideband sound systems. I would equalize the show so it didn't have any low frequency in it, and then maybe reduce the level by 3d...

Re: help, unable to record.
normally i would just use the built in mic in my laptop, but when i do, the sound quality drops after a few seconds. Let's take that one first. You should be able to get rid of that by turning off Windows Special Services. Windows Enhanced Sound http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&...

Oh, wait. You're not covering up or deleting the old bits until later.

Yes, but you haven't made an error like the poster has. He's covering up a blooper, you're dropping out for a pint.Usually I prefer to just pause the recording ("P" key),

Re: rewind and re-record
We can help a little with the Label tool. When you get to the "IN" point, press Command-B to put a label there. The label becomes sticky and you can zoom out and drag-select everything from the label to the end of the show and delete it. I don't think the tool should work this way and I po...

Re: Live Music Editing Tips?
Did you notice that most of that 1-9 list is bookkeeping? Anybody with a computer spreadsheet or grid paper, pencil and calculator (I almost said adding machine) can deal with it. "Where is the song where the lead guitar drops his instrument by accident?" If it takes you 45 minutes to find...

Re: rewind and re-record
This is only available in Audacity 1.3. So if you posted in the wrong forum by accident, you're not going to find the tool.
