Re: sound distortion
Can you point to a sound clip on-line somewhere that has the voice you want to create? I have no idea who Fred is. You can use Effect > Leveler at the various different settings to create straight clipping voice distortion. Many other vocal effects use Vocoder or AutoTune effects. It depends on what...

Re: Electrical Buzzing Sound
You might do well with a little alcohol-based glass cleaner or vodka and a paper towel. You should never touch the electrical connections on audio plugs. The natural oils on your skin stick and start to degrade the connection. You get enough oil on the shield connection and there's your hum protecti...

Re: New laptop configuration (recording from decks)
The Genie has the ability to switch between Line-In and Phono-In. Use Phono-In only if you connect a turntable. All other applications should use Line-In.

Re: AUDACITY RECORDING PROBLEM! (PLEASE HELP)
Step one is stop using Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.3.12 has provisions for overdubbing. Get Audacity 1.3.12 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ If you use MP3 or other compressed formats, you should get "lame" and "FFMpeg" from the same place. Do not use older versions of t...

Re: Recorded mix to cd problem.
78 minutes, and no. A Music CD has a strict, standard, high quality format and that's the end of the story. You can split your show in half and make two Music CDs, or you can try to make a non-Music CD -- a Data CD (like a little flat hard drive) which will take anything, even compressed music like ...

What's the show? Exactly what are you trying to record and how? Guitar plugged into your sound card?

Re: Recording with sound off
OK, so you're recording audio playing on the computer. That involves many tricks to get the playback and record sides of the machine running at once. I don't remember this being a problem, but I'm not shocked that it's happening. When I record on my machine, I have to be careful not to do anything t...

That snaps up right back to not enough information. What exactly are you recording?

Re: Replacing certain amplitudes with silence
Audacity 1.3.12 either has a noise gate or one can be added (if I can find it). See if there's one in the Effects menu near the bottom. That's not going to work because nothing can get rid of the noise during a spoken word. The Noise Gate will create cavernous silences between bouts of noisy words. ...

Re: Recording problem I cannot figure
Recording what the computer is playing is a dance between Windows, the sound card, and the sound card driver software. If any one of them drops the ball, that the end of the story. This is a popular request and in some circumstances, you need to resort to Money Based Software like Total Recorder. We...
