Re: Strange noise when recording
It's -54 or so. Too loud for quality recording. I wonder if mine does that.

Re: Strange noise when recording
That sounds like it might be the USB data stream. Do you have a bad connection? Can you try another USB port? You can get into trouble with USB equipment if the computer USB battery connection is "dirty" or noisy. That was the problem that an early version of this adapter had -- the iMic f...

If you're waiting for Audacity to always make sense, you may want to get some coffee.

Re: monitoring LP when recording in vista
I am going into the laptop via the mic input. And it worked? Or you don't know yet. The Mic-In of many laptops is very sensitive, easily overloaded ...and mono. If it does deliver a "stereo" digital show, you may find that the two sides are identical -- the two sound meters always read th...

Re: How to bring out low volume voice recording
Effect > Leveler Effect > Compressor Effect > Compress Dynamics (Chris's Compressor -- available separately.) They will all help. Leveler is a Brute Force squasher that makes no effort to sound good. You can make Jet Pilot Voices with this. Compressor is an arithmetic processor that changes volume a...

Re: Recording Karaoke
You can totally record from VLC Player or Internet audio, YouTube, etc, and you can also record your own voice. You just can't do them all at once. Audacity only accepts one audio device and generally one direction for recording. More complicated than that and you need a sound mixer or overdubbing w...

Re: A Newbie would like some advice
There are some very graceful ways of getting around this, but they don't work well on MP3 or other compressed files. The Fade In and Fade Out effects work on drag-selected material. Drag-select the end of the song and pick Fade Out and it will use that entire selection to fade. You want to make sure...

Re: Mix and Render -> clipping
Which is why nobody doing original work of any quality uses 16-bit. This slides directly into Audacity's problem managing 24-bit. 16 yes, and 32-floating, but there are pages of people having problems with 24-bit, either recording directly, or converting from 32-floating for delivery. Straight 16-bi...
