Re: Cassette to CD using Audacity on Mac OS X
MP3 is a distribution and Music Player medium, not capture, production or storage. When you decide to make new CD of the work, the original, perfect quality WAV files should still available. When the CD starts skipping is not a good time to decide to rescue it and make a new one. Even though the CD ...

Re: Warbling sounds after using Noise Reduction
Just a quick note on how Noise Reduction works. You need to provide a segment of show that is trash-only. No valuable performance. This becomes the "profile" in Audacity-speak. Then you run the tool again and the tool tries to subtract the profile presentation from the show. The problem wi...

Re: Problem with sound quality when recording to laptop
That would be this one: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/DesktopLine-In.jpg The desktop machine likely has a Stereo Line-In and the Windows Laptop doesn't. For that we have the UCA-202 USB adapter. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg Many Windows Laptops have a sensitive, mono Mic-In onl...

Re: Analysing audio and generating white noise
My questions are quite elementary The questions, yes, not the answers. You're fighting three methods of measuring audio "size." Audacity and most other programs measure +/- peak values because it's easy, fast and cheap to do. Actual energy in the air is the RMS value -- the horsepower nee...

Re: Random glitches recording
Just to be clear, you record a performance and it seems to be fine while it's being captured, but the MP3 export has holes or damage? You're missing a step in the middle. When you complete the capture of the performance, play the work while it's still in Audacity. Press Control-F to display the full...

Re: Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
Im using a twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead from the output of the mixer into the mic input on my laptop to record. That may be the first problem. Many Windows machines will not let you apply a Stereo High Level show to the sensitive, mono Mic-In. Some laptops have a Stereo Line-In and some lap...

Re: Audacity can't find ffmpeg and lame files
I have a new install of Snow Leopard on my home machine. Literally fresh from the Apple license CD to an empty drive -- not an upgrade. jimmy 20110320 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB Memory Snow Leopard OS-X 10.6.6 It's literally hours old. I played Lowly User and downloaded 1.3.12 Audacity, Lame, and F...

Re: Is there a WMA file size limitation for import?
Without actually trying it, I believe you need FFMpeg installed to deal with Windows Media.
