Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
10dB amplification... Good night! That's insanely noisy! Are you sure you have your microphone plugged all the way into the connector? That's not external or fan noise. That's electrical trash from the connection inside the computer. Try swabbing the plug with a little glass cleaner, dry it and try...

Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
The two links you added, I couldn't open them. Couldn't hear them. That's disturbing. What happens if you right-click on one of them and save them to your computer. Right click the file > Open With > Windows Media. Or better yet, Open with > Audacity. It's pretty serious if you can't open them. The...

Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
Part numbers: You already know about the microphone Radio Shack 33-3013. The USB Sound Adapter is a StarTech ICUSBAUDIO The noise settings in Audacity 1.3.12 are Noise Reduction 12, Smoothing 150, and Attack/Decay 0.15. Everybody always overdoes Noise Reduction. You need to stop correcting before yo...

Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
The first thing you want to do is post something you haven't messed with yet. We can't tell what the microphone delivered and what you created with all the tools and adjustments. Is the microphone a 3013, by any chance? Those are not dreadful microphones. We have bunches of them all over the buildin...

Re: audio interface for audacity
Just to shortcut the process, fun though it is. I'm recording Tim in our Executive Conference Room which is soundproofed. The room is an extremely big deal when you're trying to record a live performance. Unless you luck out like I did, you will be recording the instruments, singers, walls, and ceil...

Re: audio interface for audacity
Probably something like this... TimPlays.jpg Scroll around. That's playing into a Mac which doesn't require a stereo adapter. Windows machines generally do -- particularly laptops. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg The mixer is a Peavey PV6, the adapter is a UCA202 and the microphone is ...

Re: recording whatever comes thru the soundcard
It's possible you may not be able to easily record "Stereo Mix" on your new machine. It got harder and harder to do this as the Windows versions advanced. Some new computers make it very difficult. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer If the Usual Suspe...

Re: Newbie question - can switch channels
And just a note. You posted in the Audacity 1.3 forum. You should absolutely be using 1.3 for this job. Audacity 1.3 is listed as Beta software, but many times, it's the only version that will work.

Re: Input Level Selector--?
Modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2. 1.2 is very old now and is no longer updated, patched or corrected and it can have significant problems with Intel Macs like yours. Download and use Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ It's called "Beta" software, but in m...
