There's nothing magic about the expensive microphone, either. That was a birthday/Christmas/Easter present. I did a very respectable voice recording recently using a $26 Radio Shack microphone. The quiet room is a Really Big Deal.

Re: Frozen While Saving
Stop using Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.2 is very old and is no longer supported, patched, upgraded or corrected. It can be profoundly unstable on newer Macs. Get Audacity 1.3.12 and any software plugins (lame, FFMpeg, etc.) from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ Audacity 1.3 projects will not o...

Re: Best way to Amplify and then Normalize all my MP3 Playli
Audacity does not edit MP3 files. It converts MP3 music to an internal format and then makes a whole new MP3 at the end. This doubles the compression sound damage or increases the file size. Sometimes both.

Re: Best way to Amplify and then Normalize all my MP3 Playli
I'd make the iPod do it.I would really like them all to play as loud and clear as possible.
For example:
iTunes > Preferences > Playback > [X] Sound Check (Automatically adjust song playback volume to the same level.)

You might need to change it in Windows Control Panels. Audacity follows whatever the Operating System is doing.

Re: Where is the input selector in 1.3 beta?
Edit > Preferences > Devices. It may or may not appear as a drop-down on the work surface. After you set this panel, OK, Close, and restart Audacity. It may seem counter-intuitive, but this way is stable and reliable, whereas the older menu system would occasionally leave you with no inputs or an un...

Re: Files Silenced from Audacity. "Bug& Orphaned files"
how can I make Audacity work in my computer? You can stop using Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.2 is very old and is no longer supported, corrected, patched, or repaired. Get Audacity 1.3.12 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can safely install both versions, but only use one at a time. Au...

Re: Absolute Auditory Threshold Test on Audacity
Have you ever sat through a hearing test? The last one I had told me to keep stepping on the tone. They put me in headphones and played tones to me and I would press a button until the tone went away -- faded out. Repeat for many different pitch tones. Then they correlated the button presses with th...

Re: Absolute Auditory Threshold Test on Audacity
is it truly 10 db louder? No, it's 10dB higher signal level. You don't hear in a straight line like that. You can convert the timeline to dB readings with the drop-down tools on the left. and you can make the bouncing ball sound meter much more accurate by grabbing the right edge and pulling sidewa...
