Re: line in
Does the computer have a Line-In? Most Windows Laptops don't. Audacity is something of a slave to the computer that's running it. Windows Desktop machines generally have a Stereo Line-In... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/DesktopLine-In.jpg ...and so do Macs... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/...

Re: any other way besides a mic to record?
Yes. What would you like to record and on what kind of computer and which operating system?
This is the kind of sentence we're looking for.

[Gasp!]
There it is. It even has curve formatting like I think I asked for a long time ago. Of course, with a limited point control suite, you may not have a lot of choices.
20dB is the limit?

Re: Unremovable Audacity Dock Icon
If you want to continue using Audacity and not have it crash all the time, you should probably use Audacity 1.3.12. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from her...

Re: Unremovable Audacity Dock Icon
Control-Click the icon > Remove from Dock. If not, restart the Mac and try it again. You understand that removing the application from /Applications will not remove all the pieces of the program? You can't "start over" by doing that because Audacity leaves preference files in different pla...

Re: Unable to open project file
You may be stuck with the WAV and MP3 versions. Once you mess with the structure of an Audacity Project, it's very difficult to return to normal -- particularly in Audacity 1.2. A great many forum complaints start: "I tried to move an Audacity Project between computers......" And then some...

Re: Recording in a space with air conditioning / (ceiling) f
This is a really bad recording, but it illustrates what you can do with a simple roll-off and gentle noise reduction. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=54973&p=135421#p135884 It's a given that you need a music system that will go down that far in order to hear what you're do...

Re: Recording in a space with air conditioning / (ceiling) f
That's what this is. You can use the Audacity High Pass Filter set to 100Hz and get similar results. Fudge that number. I have a mixer that can switch between 80, 100, and 120. 100Hz is the classic one and that's the one built into the Shure Brothers plug-in device. http://store.shure.com/store/shur...

Re: AUP and DATA - Save or delete?
A lot of mp3's could be stored on a dvd. MP3 creates damage. Always, and you can't stop it. You can approach perfect quality, but MP3 does not have provision for perfect bit-for-bit reproduction -- and the damage is cumulative. If you edit an MP3 file and export a new one, the gargly, bubbly, honky...

Re: Strange sound emits when recording
It could be, but probably not.
This is about where your red recording meters and blue waves should be for good, clear, live recording. Is that where yours are?
