Re: recording synth audio to the mic input

Plus, the Mic-In is mono and the Line-In is Stereo. So you get half the signal and it's distorted. Everybody wins.

The cassette machine has a similar type of signal to your music device.

Re: only records in mono

will the new version of Audacity work well with Windows XP? that's what's running on my computer.
It runs well on my Windows XP machine at work.

We try to keep the questions and answers on the forum. It's not a help desk, it's a group collaboration.

Re: More than one login

Audacity is a really simple program and likes running on simple computers. I think the only way out is go in as Administrator or Root and change the permissions and owners of the files. It's entirely possible that you're going to get either license running, but not both. I'm running without my Mac t...

Re: Nebbie...What equipment do I buy/get to record?

I'll do the first level questions... What's your computer? Is it a Windows Laptop? Which Windows? Somewhere in the church, all the microphones come together into one mixer or sound desk. Find the name and model number of that mixer. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PV8/ We're all flying blind,...

Re: export in mp3 -- lame.exe has stopped working

I have been needing to restart a lot now!! When was the last time you did an error check and defragment? Are you filling up your hard drive? If the machine insists on crashing all the time it may be time to run a memory tester. Audacity can cause computer instability by failing to deal with badly w...

Re: Frequency change detection

I think the "that's enough" sound is when the duration of the ringing falls below a threshold Exactly. Complicated by the actual impact sound which doesn't change. I wonder about not only amplifying the work, but carefully sheering off the first spike of sound to get rid of the hammer con...

Re: Recording

Are you recording from the microphone by accident? That will pick up everything -- badly. Whenever Audacity 1.2 starts acting oddly, we almost always push you over to Audacity 1.3. ======================= Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 ...

Re: Listening through receiver while recording (newbie)

Yes. The sound on a phonograph record is intentionally and very precisely distorted. A Phono Preamplifier is used to unscramble the distortion and deliver clear, perfect sound. You can apply the "raw" phonograph signal to the "Phono-In" of your receiver and the receiver will do t...

Re: Beta Problems

The version for an Intel Mac is 1.2.5. Audacity 1.2.5 can be profoundly unstable on newer Macs. Audacity leaves preferences files around even if you un-install it. If they're damaged, you can get bad install after bad install. You should go through those instructions and make sure your computer star...
