How would you change the permissions on the lame and FFMpeg files? Or wouldn't you do it that way?

Re: Doing some complicated home recording
If you do load Audacity, don't use this one. Audacity 1.2 is no longer supported. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/downl...

Re: Doing some complicated home recording
I'm on a stock Gateway M-1634U laptop No. Probably not. You're on an underpowered Notebook computer. That's probably where your gaps and holes in the other software are coming from and Audacity isn't going to do anything to solve that. If this works at all, the computer has to be in top form with p...

Re: effects - vocal eliminator
It's way on the bottom. Macs have that extra pile of Apple effects in addition to the normal ones. Don't fall in love with that idea or bet any money on it. Vocal Removal rarely works well and sometimes doesn't work at all. You can't have a mono show. The singer has to be in the exact middle. The sh...

Re: Telephone
People usually ask if they can record both sides of the conversation on a telephone call. Maybe. Radio Shack makes telephone adapters that claim to be able to adapt your telephone line so you can record, but it's usually highly imbalanced. Your voice is enormously louder than the far end, prompting ...

Re: Stereo to Mono and Levels
Step one. Start using Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.3 has a "Stereo Tracks To Mono" tool. There are two ways to adjust loudness. Use Effect > Amplify, that happens in selected blocks, or the Envelope Tool which will let you adjust things easily word by word. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no long...

Re: This software stinks. Beware!!!
GarageBand is available in the iLife production package available at extra cost. You can get an old version free. Until the very last version, QuickTime Pro -- needed for recording and exporting -- was an extra cost package. Have you noticed that QuickTime is in two packages now? QT10 is the simplif...

Re: More than one login
There's something about The Whole World permissions that don't work like you think they're going to. It's not that easy, plus, if you do something messy, it can be dangerous. Which brings up the problem that I don't think you can change execute permissions using the pretty pictures. They're only for...

Re: Cockpit noise removal
You'll have to apply a new noise reduction every time the plane changes speed. The trick is finding a good place where there is plane noise and no voices for the profile step.
Oh, and Effect > Amplify at the end to bring the volume up.
