You also didn't follow instructions. Hold the Control key (lower left) while you click on the sound file. That's called Control-Click. A dialog will open. Select Open With > QuickTime Player. Press Command-I to get QuickTime's INFO panel (if you get that far). That may not do any good, but it's wort...

Not yet. Did you go all the way through that web page? Sometimes the Stereo Mix option is buried under layers of Windowness.

If all else fails, you can install Total Recorder and use that.

The music file is gray on your desktop right after you exported it? So you can't click on it at all, whether or not you have SoundCloud open?

You told the computer to use its built-in microphone instead of wherever the song is coming from. That will pick up your speakers and anything else in the room with you.
