Re: Looking for an AGC "effect"

Another, graceful way to do it is with Chris's Compressor. Chris's Compressor http://pdf23ds.net/software/dynamic-compressor/ Chris designed this tool to simulate, for example, the volume management in an FM station -- theatrical compression. Generally you can leave the settings as-is and Chris will...

later delete the .aud project file as I don't anticipate needing it again.
...And the associated /data folder?

Re: Multiple recording issues

You can't reinstall Audacity by reinstalling Audacity. There is a special preference file you need to modify to cause Audacity to "Start Over." No downloading needed. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Audacity_Preferences Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched...

Re: When URL not located...

Many programs will record "Audio Playing On The Computer," the restriction is usually in Windows Control Panels, not Audacity. Modern Windows installs make it very difficult to record "internal audio" and Macs don't have this ability at all.

Re: Mic splitting question.

The step from one microphone to two is usually the magic place you graduate to a more expensive system, not just double the cost of one microphone. Computers in general do not support two microphones -- even digital USB mics. There is provision to force computers to accept two USB microphones, but t...

Re: Current date and time in timeline

You join the list of people that really want a surveillance recorder. I don't think there is any provision to do this in Audacity. There are many more popular feature requests. There is an expensive provision to record SMPTE television time code on one Audacity track while you're putting the show on...

Re: Can I batch convert a bunch of .aup files into MP3?

You should get Audacity 1.3 whether you use Chains or not. Audacity 1.2 is not stable on modern Macs.

Re: Can I batch convert a bunch of .aup files into MP3?

You used some really dangerous words. You do not have AUP files. You have Audacity Projects which are managed by the AUP file. Each one is associated with a /DATA folder which is holding the actual show. Don't ever separate those sets. I would probably download and install Audacity 1.3 from here. ht...

That sounds like Windows Conferencing Services. The connections on most Windows laptops are designed for this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg If you don't have a headset or other communications equipment, you may be able to just turn off echo cancellation and auto volume cont...
