Re: Editing selection now specific length, not moveable
We're slowly shutting down the Audacity 1.2 forum, so you might want to upgrade. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/downlo...

Re: Mic to iPod touch, 4g?
Before we go over the edge. Guitars have a much more powerful signal than microphones. I'd be fascinated if they got both to work. Neither one is stereo. There is no "Mic Line-In." Mic-In is delicate, low-level, easily overloaded, and mono. Line-In is powerful, high volume and stereo. The ...

Do you like to record internet audio like YouTube or On-line radio? The settings to do that will cause this problem. There are no instructions to reset these settings, but you can follow these instructions backwards -- or at least get a good idea where to look. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Reco...

Do you have "Snap To" selected in the lower part of the work window? If you do, deselect and restart Audacity.

Re: Why can't Audicity simply record *without the HISS*!?
I just patched my web site listings for the illustrations and clips. http://www.kozco.com/tech/MicTests/studioLayout.jpg http://www.kozco.com/tech/MicTests/timc.wav I'm using my Mac as the digitizer, but you should be able to achieve similar results with your setup because your digitizer is inside t...

Re: Audacity 1.3 (Beta) Converting song from aup. to mp3
You do not have an AUP "file." You have an Audacity Project which is a whole bunch of files managed by the AUP file. If you open multiple songs in Audacity and meld them into one show, you can't move any of the original music files until you Export a "real" music file. If you do ...

Re: Mic/Stero mix input
The recording source for Audacity is the Windows Control Panels, not anything Audacity is doing. If you got the Audacity services to work, it was by accident. Both do have to match, though. If you change any of the Audacity Preferences, you should restart Audacity to make sure the new settings stick...

No. The USB services inside the mixer should take care of that. That mixer is designed for, for example, simple microphones like this rock band thing... http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/sm/sm58-vocal-microphone Common as dirt. I think our company has three of them. Terrific microph...

Re: Raw voltage data output from the sound-card?
Audio has one other oddity that many other data systems don't. It goes positive and negative. Zero (no sound) is in the middle, not at one end. You are constructing a data model of rapid air vibration of more and less air around a quiescent point.
Good to keep that in mind.

Re: Why can't Audicity simply record *without the HISS*!?
The only hiss that Audacity has anything to do with is the Dither Export which you can turn off if you don't need it. All the other noises come from your sound system. Microphone signals are very tiny and it's very difficult to make them big enough for use in a show. As a very fuzzy rule, unless you...
