Re: Recording problem
You can connect similar to this... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MacLine-In.jpg With one of these... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MiniStereoToRCA.jpg That connection is not terrible. I do all my vocal work that way with the sound mixer in place of the cassette machine -- or turntable in y...

Re: Audacity not recording from Saffire LE
Desktop with Audacity Closed. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Nothing is going to work unless you can get bouncing blue balls in the sound meter. Switch to the build-in microphone and watch your voice bounce. Then switch to the external sound system and see if it works. If you...

Re: listening to a file on Audacity
Our first reaction is to get you to stop using Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can install ...

Re: How do you get rid of echo?
Recording a telephone conversation is harder than it looks, too. If you use Skype or any internet voice service, the echo is built-in. Internet Protocol was never intended for live performances and sometimes it drops the voice management ball -- even if you have stunning internet connections. You ca...

Re: How do you get rid of echo?
It's valuable to stop referring to echo as a "thing." It's a singer's own voice reflecting from a wall or ceiling to the microphone slightly later than the main performance. In effect, you're asking the software to remove the singer from himself. A notoriously difficult task. This is one o...

Re: multiple versions of Audacity on same lap top
Just so I'm clear, you can only run one Audacity at a time, but you can have multiple instances or windows open at once. Sometimes that's the only way to copy and paste between songs.

Re: multiple versions of Audacity on same lap top
You can have versions 1.2 and 1.3 in perfect safety. They were designed to co-exist. You can have a "portable" version of Audacity as well, but I'm not as clear about that. You do need to know that Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2. In addition... Audacity 1.2 is very old and no l...

Re: Unusual recording requirement?
There is one. Audacity has a timer tool, but it's only good (last I checked) for one event.

Re: Multiple Track Recording errors
How old is the computer and what's the processor? Audacity is something of a coal mine canary. Audio (and video) happen in real time. No waiting for processing or calculations. If there's no place to put that B-flat over middle-C data when it arrives, it goes in the trash can. And the canary falls o...

Re: Clean Up background noise, etc
The production tools are all designed to polish up a theatrical show by getting rid of a slight background hiss or air conditioning hum, to make an already good show much better. They will not, as one poster put it, rescue the destroyed voices in a bad, noisy sound track as evidence in a divorce set...
