Re: Buzzing while speaking
There is one thing you can do. Record a "constant" tone. Strike a wineglass (carefully) next to the microphone. Introduce it. "Wine Glass [binnnnnnnnng]." I have dinner and soup plates that will ring if thumped. Trying to separate the distortion from constantly changing tones of ...

Do you have any idea how hard it is to buy tin foil these days? If you try it on-line you get not so subtly redirected.
Tin Foil > > > Reynolds Wrap Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil.
Aluminum foil is not nearly so good with the, you know, rays.

Re: Peak value problem
You can get Effect > Amplify to tell you what your peak value is. Run Amplify and look at the top number. Then, if you wish, type -6 in the bottom number—new peak value. They are usually playable in Windows Media Player. error messages from foobar200. I'm foggy why we went out to external music players. The AU files open and play individually in Audacity, right? Unless, of course, they're broken. Could it have created orphan files I don't think you created anything...

Re: Buzzing while speaking
Focusrite makes a lot of stuff. There's a Scarlett Studio Bundle. Actually more than one. Model numbers? I need to be able to tell you to "push that button" and I can't do that without knowing the exact model. Can you go on batteries instead of wall power? Can you change USB connections? A...

Re: Buzzing while speaking
Give us the laundry list. What's the microphone, how is it connected, what else are you running, do you use cloud storage, has it ever worked with Audacity?
Does the built-in microphone work?

The second segment is more or less ideal volume. The first segment is what you did.
Needs more Zot (technical term).

I don't know we ever covered microphone spacing. Do you use a pop and blast shield? Then you can be as close as one power fist. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PowerFistSpacing-Screen-500t.jpg Doesn't have to be straight in front, either. Slightly off can work. That can also make reading the...
