Re: Guitar delay when recording

At least on Windows, you can mess about in the Windows Control Panels and send "Line-In" directly out to the headphones. This means you only have the delay in the UCA-202 and computer processing to worry about which should be minimal. You can also plug your headphones into the UCA-202 dire...

Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?

No. It's about then I cut loose my PCs and started using modern Macs. Most times with those, all you have to worry about is how full the drive is.

Some of the Windows elves may have hard data about that.

Re: Audac.1.3.3 w/Firebox: how to configure settings to reco

Try Apple > System Preferences > Audio > Hardware > Input. Does it show up there? The device has it make it past the computer before Audacity gets a crack at it. Select it, or see if it doesn't show up at all. If not, then the device isn't arriving at the computer. Change cables, try a different com...

Re: Processing live audio podcast

The recorder was not held right next to the performers so as not to be intrusive. You might need to be intrusive. Live performances are always a pain because "theatrical" and "recording" are different. There are some interesting things you can do with the microphone/device to st...

Re: Processing live audio podcast

You could cheat. This is what happens when I drag-selected the guitar only and applied Effect > Amplify > OK.

I assume you want something more automatic. I'd try Chris Compressor.

Re: Audio Breakup with 1.3.8

Google tells us there's no shortage of people having noise problems with the Tascam 122. Sometimes it's necessary to put a wall-powered USB hub in line with the device so it gets its juice from the wall power supply and not the poor USB power pins. USB power may be convenient, but sometimes it just ...

Re: Audio Breakup with 1.3.8

Do you have normal blue waves and bouncing green sound meters? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg No punching maximum meters or blue waves filling up the space? Where are the headphones plugged in? Can we assume if you play the sound track on Anything Else, it's fine? You said a m...

Re: Recorded audio waveform shows, but doesn't play.

Are you really using Audacity 1.2? Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can install both audacity 1.2 and Auda...

Re: Killing hard clipping

clipping is caused by a waveform but it has harmonic consequences which can be reduced. Which assumes that the original musical note had no harmonics of its own. A trumpet comes to mind. By actual experience it's terrifically hard to mic a trumpet without some sort of distortion and/or clipping. Un...
