Re: Sometimes "cut" does not work. Why?

What am I doing wrong? Probably using a very old version of Audacity. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You ca...

Re: How to soften sound that starts out too harshly?

Yes.

But we're going to need to know a lot more about it. Are you overloading the sound channel? Do you have a bad microphone? Who's the performer and where are they? What's the sound and how are you listening to it? Is a sample of the sound posted anywhere we can listen to it?

Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?

There are learning moments here from other forums. It's been common to recommend a relatively small 40GB to 60GB for the system drive and keep that one thoroughly error corrected and defragmented. Then use a second much larger drive for actual data. This splits computer management from show data. Yo...

Re: Weird background noises when recording?

You pretty much violated all the sound connection rules. The output from the keyboard is almost certainly high-quality stereo and the Mic in of your laptop is mono. The keyboard output is powerful, massive high volume and the Mic-In is expecting a very tiny, delicate, wispy signal. As if that weren'...

we're running 10.3.9, thanks... Panther is pretty seriously behind the times. We finally had to stop using our corporate Panther machines for production editing. The tools just weren't there for editing needs. There have been complaints of going past Tiger with Motorola machines, but if you're OK w...

Re: Processing live audio podcast

One of the problems with the Zoom series is you can't be there to set levels unless you're hand-holding it and even then. My first pass clip illustrates one of the problems with that. The applause is the "right" level although it has overload points in it (did you do that, or did you let t...

Re: New member! Problems with recording in stereo

If you have only one channel in a stereo show and it's Right, do you have the plug at the sound card all the way in? Are you completely sure you're plugged into the blue Stereo Line-In and not the pink, Mono Mic-In (assuming a normal sound card)? Can you pass the touch test? Set Audacity to recordin...

Re: Killing hard clipping

I'm saying that clipping produces additional harmonics. It doesn't always. If you reference the original rich trumpet blast and clip it just the right amount, the rich but powerful musical overtones vanish and are replaced by straight old harsh square wave every third to infinity harmonics -- not n...

Re: NOOBIE!! Problem with unwanted echo!!

You can have another problem as well. You can't listen to the computer speakers at the same time that you record your voice. What is feedback or howling in a normal rock band venue is delay or echo on a computer. She's wearing headphones for a reason... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/wynonna2.jpg Koz

Re: Why INSTALL lame_enc.dll file?

You are urged strongly to download and install only the latest lame software, and get it from the same place you got your Audacity... http://audacityteam.org/download/ Older versions of the software will not work, even if they have the same filenames. Also, this is the software that comes in both .e...
