Re: Lost recordings after exporting to WAV format
Next time you do this, Save a Project and export a WAV. As it sits now, having a damaged WAV file means that's the end of the story. There's no way to back up to an earlier version. Sudden Computer Insanity is frequently caused by the computer filling up. Less likely is fragmentation, but you can ch...

Re: Gain control
The only way you might run into problems with that is if the ADS RDX-150 had internal RIAA equalization for a turntable -- usually required. No Google hit I found says anything about an RIAA "Phono-In" connection, so I'm guessing you're much further ahead with just the straight cable. If y...

Re: Selecting PC Hardware for Audio Recording?
I usually split the hard disk into different partitions though. It doesn't improve performance, but it helps to keep things tidy up. It decreases performance. We recommend against it for either video or audio production. Partition file management is not free like it is on physical drives. Getting t...

Re: Audacity is Painfully Slow
Are you running out of hard drive space? Is your hard drive highly fragmented? Audacity will not run into either of those. An hour and a half stereo show is a lot of data -- particularly if you're doing effects and editing on top of that. A fragmented drive will slow Audacity to mud.

Re: Recorded cell phone conversation. Any helpful hints?
It's low pass. Anything lower than 4000 goes through. The "telephone" special effects filter is generally considered 300 to 3000. That will filter a high quality voice so it sounds like somebody talking on the "phone," even if phones don't actually sound like that any more. It's ...

Are both sides of the conversation on the same sound track?

Re: Noise only during speech
Live recording is always a juggling act between overload and noise. Overload and clipping (popping) is immediately fatal to a show, so you don't want to do that. There is one other non-technical point missed. Is it always the same speaker that pops and has sibilant problems? Once you get beyond Skyp...

Re: Are Apple effects free software?
Nobody is racing to use on-line software. It's too easy to "own" the users work by clever manipulation of the user agreement. Written works produced and edited on Word-Squirter® software become the exclusive property of Squirt International -- all rights including international distributio...

Re: CRASH - Too many plugins?
In random order... Files are perfectly compatible between all versions of Audacity. It's Projects that don't work backwards. Export a nice WAV file from any version and it will open on any other version. Never do production in MP3. Ever. It's not Plugins that cause Audacity instability, it's the one...
